Software Engineering Manager

Responsibilities:

Build, lead, and motivate a high-performing software engineering team.

  • Manage projects with top-down oversight throughout entire execution to ensure success as defined by adherence to standards of scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Coach team members in Agile frameworks
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment where engineers can thrive.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members.
  • Conduct performance reviews and help engineers develop their technical and professional skills.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product design, QA) to ensure successful project execution.
  • Communicate project goals, priorities, and progress to all stakeholders effectively.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest software development trends and technologies.
  • Communicate proactively with all involved personnel to provide encouragement, identify problems, create solutions, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Resolve conflicts and remove obstacles that occur
  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals.
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals.
  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Develop the long-term technical vision and roadmap within, and often beyond, the scope of your teams. Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.
  • Oversee systems designs within the scope of the broader area, and review product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems.
  • Ensure best practices are followed in code (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
  • Provides support to the business by responding to user's questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies). Facilitating resolutions and leading cross-functional partnership.
  • Leads the discovery phase of medium to large projects to come up with high level design by partnering with the product management, project management, business and user experience teams and obtaining cross-function approvals.
  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise and applies this to the development, execution, and improvement of action plans by providing expert advice and guidance to others. Supporting and aligning efforts to meet customer, business needs and building commitment for perspectives and rationales.
  • Provides and supports the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders. Identifying business needs, determining, and carrying out necessary processes and practices. Monitoring progress and results and adapting to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
  • Compliance with company policies, procedures and supports company mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by incorporating these into the development and implementation of business plans
  • Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives. Consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or key stakeholder. Soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness and participating in and supporting community outreach events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Strong Agile Framework experience [Scrum/Kanban] is a must
  • Extensive leadership experience and strong teaming abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Minimum 10 years of experience and  7 years management experience in the IT field, including development work and interactions with customers
