Are you motivated to work on leading research activities and early-stage product development within the emerging field of Extensible Traffic Management (xTM)?
We're looking for a Senior Research Engineer to become part of this newly formed team, you will be part of a globally distributed, diverse team of innovators solving some of the most exciting challenges happening in the global connected aviation ecosystem. This is an ideal role for anyone who enjoys researching solutions in the Extensible Traffic Management (xTM) field. YOU will play a pivotal role in this high growth and high visibility area of the Collins Aerospace company.
The xTM Engineering group develops prototypes and product concepts exploring topics related to the integration of uncrewed vehicles (drones, both large and small) and advanced air mobility (AAM) platforms into the global air traffic ecosystem. This includes services and infrastructure supporting UAS Traffic Management (UTM) and U-Space, including flight planning/authorization, mission management, airspace situational awareness, airspace demand capacity balancing and air and ground risk mitigation capabilities.
What YOU will do:

You will lead the team’s participation in research and demonstration activities in the extensible traffic management domain

You will participate in the design, implementation, testing, and documentation of software as part of broader product development
-
You will serve as a representative of the organization in standards creation, rulemaking, and related industry-group collaborations in the xTM space
-
You will collaborate with a globally distributed team members, customers, and other stakeholders on a variety of services for different markets and use cases to serve the emerging UAS and UAM/AAM markets

You will travel to support conferences, customer meetings, and other activities (up to 15%)

Education & Experience:
-
Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
Qualifications you must have:
-
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

Experience with self-direction in an unfamiliar or new area. Ability to follow an idea from initial conception to working prototype

Software engineering skills and experience with full-stack webservices development
-
Experience with industry best practices for webservice development including version control, coding standards, agile development methodology, bug tracking, requirements refinement and validation, formal testing, and application deployment
Skills we value:

Experience in research activities in an air traffic control or UAS related domain
-
Full-stack webservices development. Experience with Angular or similar preferred. Experience with microservices architectures preferred.

AWS Experience or general cloud hosting experience

Familiarity with geospatial computation/GIS

Alignment any of the following or similar: Angular, OpenLayers, Python, especially with Flask or similar, .NET/C#, gRPC/Protobuf, RESTful interfaces, Docker, Version control (Git preferred)

The salary range for this role is 75,000 USD - 161,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
