Electrical Test Technician

We are currently seeking a dynamic individual to fill an opening for an Electrical Test Technician at our Farmington Hills, MI location in the Mechatronics and Electrical Test Department.

Job Description:

Validate vehicle electrical systems and components on bench, vehicles and automatic test equipment using existing test procedures. Instrument test vehicle, perform test procedure, gather and analyze test data and report test results to test/design engineers on schedule. Suggest and implement improvements to the test procedures for accuracy and efficiency. Successful candidate should be capable of working independently and comfortable in a team setting. This position requires physical abilities to use shop tools, climb into the vehicle or crawl under the vehicle, to lift vehicle parts, remove/install parts and instrumentation. This position requires good driving skills.

Under minimum supervision instrument test vehicle, read electrical schematics, set-up and use electrical measurement equipment (oscilloscope, meter, data acquisition, PC based diagnostic tools), perform test procedure, gather and analyze test data and report test results to test/design engineers according to agreed schedule. Occasionally drive the test vehicle on public roads, and travel to Nissan plants in MS, and TN. Occasionally fabricate simple test harnesses and test fixtures.

Requirements:

  • basic knowledge of automotive electrical system and electrical circuits and components.
  • ability to read and understand electrical schematics,
  • use of electrical measurement equipment (oscilloscope, digital multi meter, data acquisition, PC based diagnostic tools),
  • use shop tools to install/remove vehicle parts and instrument vehicles for testing.
  • record, analyze and summarize test data using MS Word/Excel, PowerPoint etc.,
  • fabricate simple test harnesses and test fixtures using hand tools and soldering station.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in an automotive related discipline preferred plus 4 year of Test Technician experience in Lab Operations Department or equivalent. (Will consider 8 years Test Technician experience in the Lab Operation Department in lieu of an associate’s degree).
  • Experience with instrumentation and data collection.
  • Knowledge of CAN communication and ability to use CAN analysis tools is a plus.
  • Automotive experience preferred.
  • Automotive electrical/wiring is a plus.
  • Willing to work overtime and travel as needed; the candidate must be able to work overtime on some weekends and off-shift as needed.
  • Strong automotive mechanical skills, problem solving skills, and proficient using Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to maintain clean and safe work area.
