Position Overview:

The Boeing Company is looking for a Systems Engineer Architect (Senior or Lead) for Military Data Networks (MDN) to join our KC-46 Mission Systems team in Everett, WA or Tukwila, WA.

The MDN sub-system is part of the Mission Systems capability on KC-46, an integrated suite of processors and data network equipment that provides a Classified and Un-Classified computing environment for the aircraft mission systems, making the KC-46 aircraft an interoperable member of the net-centric fleet.

The Boeing KC-46 Pegasus is the new aerial refueling tanker aircraft designed to support multi-role missions including refueling, cargo/passenger transport, and medevac airlift. The KC-46 is a military commercial derivative aircraft based on the Boeing 767-2C aircraft and modified per customer specifications for the primary mission of aerial refueling US and Allied aircraft using either the Hose & Drogue systems or the Boom. The KC-46 is also equipped with a suite of self defensive and tactical situational awareness systems that allows the aircraft to get closer to the fight when supporting combat missions.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering design, development, and analysis of Military Data Networks avionics to ensure seamless integration into higher level systems and platforms

  • Consultation in the design, development, integration, test, and operational capability of various programs

  • Develop, validate, and verify system level requirements

  • Oversee the definition and execution of critical tests of various kinds to validate performance of designs to system requirements

  • Provides leadership in technical management of appropriate aspects of critical supplier, internal Boeing manufacturing, and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements

  • Support for products will include the entire lifecycle including development, production, in service (fleet) support, as well as flight and lab testing

  • Gather information to support proposal development for upgrades and new business

  • Coordinate system level integration of MDN hardware and software

  • Coordinate and ensure FAA, military certification, and Boeing airworthiness activities for MDN system and its component

  • Coordinate and consult with specialty engineering IPTs such as safety, electromagnetic emanations, and cyber security

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years of experience working with FAA and or Military type certification requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with avionics, computing and/or data networks hardware

  • 3+ years of experience in data analysis and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA)

  • 1+ years of experience with Software Development Processes

  • 1+ year of experience leading projects and/or teams

  • 1+ year of experience in equipment management

  • 1+ years of experience developing requirements and performing requirements decomposition

  • Experience evaluating aircraft maintenance requirements, certifications or airworthiness directives

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Active U.S. Secret Clearance or higher

  • Experience working with commercial and/or military avionics subsystem(s) including technical subcontract management

  • Experience with military communications equipment and/or datalinks

  • Experience in hardware and software integration

  • Experience troubleshooting avionic equipment, general electronics, and/or aircraft systems

  • Experience with Mission Systems architecture

Typical Education/Experience:
Senior (Level 4)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 5)
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Note: Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. Summary pay range (Senior, Level 4): 128,350 – 173,650. Summary pay range (Lead, Level 5): 157,250 – 212,750
