REQ ID: 122600

JOB TITLE: Material Science Engineer

SALARY: £37,200 - £49,200 + Additions & Benefits

POSTING END DATE: 17th May 2024

LOCATION: Gaydon, Warwick, UK

We’re re-examining our vehicles and what a vehicle means in the emerging world of automation, connectedness, electrification and the shared economy. New ideas, new technology, and new approaches to mobility are our business. Join a team of next generation thinkers.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The industry is growing quickly at a time when the technology is changing rapidly which poses a number of challenges for JLR. The technology is changing at a faster rate compared to our normal maturation timelines. So, to manage this, we must look forward and identify the right technologies that we need to invest in and determine how we grow as a team to accommodate and deliver this.

The battery team is one of the fastest growing teams in the JLR business with main focus to respond to the increasing mix of BEV vehicles in our cycle plan. We are looking for Materials Science Engineers based in the Battery Systems Advanced Concepts & Research Pillar, reporting to the Pillar Head. The Materials Science Chapter will be responsible for implementing Materials Science solutions to meet component functional targets, including, but not limited to, development of new chemistries and technologies for improved battery performance.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and develop new chemistries to address BEV battery technology roadmaps to support JLRs electrification transition. Evaluate the impact on ESG for new products and processes developed.
  • Consolidate and create benchmark material from device to vehicle that maximises our understanding of our competitors and the current / latest technology landscape being deployed.
  • Develop and cascade a technology roadmap that takes us to the next generation of battery technologies such as solid state and Materials Science-to-car / module-to-car concepts.
  • Process, record and track test data using software tools. Optimise baseline material and electrochemical specifications through development of experimental plans using Design of Experiments. Undertake statistical modelling on data generated using the appropriate software to identify trends for process optimisation.
  • Conduct literature and patent review on next generation cell chemistries and technologies.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Experience of the multi-physics nature of Materials Science and battery design and integration.
  • Experience within competitor Materials Science and battery manufacturing industries.
  • An ability to communicate a technical concept and strategy vision to the wider vehicle and Power Train electrification teams in order to drive toward a single optimised roadmap.
  • Experience in materials and electrochemical characterisation, and evaluating data.
  • Knowledge of the BEV Materials Science and battery landscape across a worldwide supply base, or other OEM manufacturers, to allow credible and competitive concepts and strategies to be followed.

SO WHY US?

Bring all this to the home of premium innovation, and you’ll find the opportunities to further your career with a world-class team, a discounted car purchase and lease scheme for you and your family, membership of a competitive pension plan and performance related bonus scheme.
