Principal Content Experience Designer

Position Overview

The Principal Content Experience Designer at Autodesk takes a role in crafting engaging content for our customers and optimizes product experiences that promote customer knowledge and skill development. Content may include:

  • user interface labels and strings

  • in-product messaging

  • in-product learning experiences

  • customer-facing online help

  • tutorials

You will be in the Product Development and Manufacturing Solutions (PDMS) organization, which delivers products, such as Fusion and Inventor, that help our customers working in design and manufacturing industries be successful.

You will work with a team of experienced content and UX designers, alongside stakeholders from Product Management, Software Engineering, Software Architecture, and Quality Assurance, to create compelling content experiences that help our customers solve their most important "design and make" problems.

Note that Content Designers in PDMS create content that guides users seamlessly through workflows and enhances the learnability of feature-rich software applications. They do not work on marketing content (such as blogs, marketing campaigns, brand campaigns, advertising or social media). You will report to Manager, Experience Design. This is a hybrid position in Pune, India.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Craft user-interface text and in-product messaging that meets company standards and guides customers to be successful using Autodesk products.

  • Create long-form instructional content, when needed, to supplement in-product content.

  • Build effective working relationships across teams to develop a strong understanding of customer needs, context, and business objectives, and use that understanding to influence feature design for learnability.

  • Provide expertise in human-centered design, content design, and information architecture to large and/or complex projects.

  • Participate in design and content reviews, and model best practices for giving and receiving feedback, to seek and apply feedback that results in clear, accurate content that meets customer needs.

  • Apply existing content experience patterns, as well as extend and create new patterns when needed.

  • Mentor other content designers in techniques and tools for creating elegant content experiences that meet customer needs and align with business goals.

  • Conduct customer research to validate work and leverage data to guide decision-making.

  • Capture project requirements and other information necessary to estimate content development efforts.

  • Track trends and developments in content design, leveraging and sharing this knowledge to further mature our content design practice.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience, in a related field, such as English, web design, communications, engineering, or product design.

  • 8+ years' experience of developing high-quality, in-product content experiences for software applications.

  • Expert in distilling complex and technical subject matter into clear and concise written, visual, or video content.

  • High level of proficiency using Figma to design content experiences.

  • Skilled in communication and storytelling across a network of peers and stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of using analytics and data to inform decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with engineering, manufacturing, industrial design, or related systems.

  • Experience with GitHub and Markdown authoring, markup languages (such as HTML, XML, or DITA XML) and content management systems (CMS).

  • Knowledge of one or more Autodesk software products.
