Job Description Qualifications:

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking an innovative Mechanical Systems Engineer with knowledge of airplane design and/or engineering principles, to join the Boeing Customer Support team in Seal Beach, CA. You will be an integral part of supporting BCA’s models in-service and development (example 747, 767, 777, 787, 737NG, 737MAX, 777X, and the next generation of commercial airplanes).

As a Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will work directly with airline customers to address and resolve in-service airplane system issues related to Environmental Control Systems (i.e. Cabin Air Conditioning and Temperature Control System, Pneumatic System, Cabin Pressurization, Ant-Ice Protection, Nitrogen Generation System for fuel tank inerting, Cargo Smoke Detection and Fire Suppression System, Instrument Cooling, and Liquid Cooling System). You will act as a liaison and coordinate with various engineering and technical disciplines to address customer concerns.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Mid-Level and Senior Mechanical Systems Engineers.

Boeing Customer Support operates on a 24/7/365 basis. Employees must be willing to work flexible hours and/or non-standard shifts to support our fleets. International and domestic travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supports and/or leads the research of technical, operational, and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer

  • Assists with the investigation of problems to provide engineering design disposition of discrepancies

  • Assists in monitoring suppliers' performance to ensure compliance with requirements

  • Assists other members of project or program teams, management, and technical staff to define and implement engineering solutions to meet group, organization, and company objectives

  • Provides technical, design and informational support for basic production, product support or in-service issues. Troubleshoots basic system problems consistent with operational protocols

  • Assists in the development of customer correspondence and basic technical documentation (e.g. Fleet Team Digest articles, service letters, drawings, specifications, documents, data sets, design folders, test requirements documents, manuals) for continued safe operation and maintenance of equipment

  • Assists in designing and/or providing analysis of interim and final engineering solutions to return airplanes to revenue service

  • Works with and possibly directing cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis and develop dispositions for complex design non-conformances

  • Occasionally performs tests to verify operational and functional requirements

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in Seal Beach, CA.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 5+ years of experience in the aerospace industry

  • Willing and able to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Environmental Control Systems

  • Master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace Engineering

  • Experience using verbal and written communication skills to achieve deliverables

  • Experience delivering presentations to internal and external customers

  • Knowledge of thermodynamics/thermal sciences, airflow analysis and modeling, and/or mechanical systems analysis

  • Experience collaborating across multiple functions

Typical Education / Experience:

  • Mid-Level (Level 3): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

  • Senior (Level 4): Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary Pay Range for Mid-Level (Level 3): $102,000 - $138,000

Summary Pay Range for Senior Level (Level 4): $124,100 - $167,900
