Purpose of the role:

Manufacture of metallic Machined components to engineering data and in accordance with internal and external OEM quality requirements

Low quantity production quantities, generally one off components plus prototype manufacture

Manage own workload (Shop Orders & Work Tasks) within own area, Lease with Senior Inspection Technician regarding delivery forecasts. Ensure own area in a safe and efficient condition to meet targets across Quality, Safety, Delivery, Cost and People.

Responsibilities:

  • Working to a schedule of work to meet on-time delivery and to the required quality requirements.

  • Ensure job bookings and clocking’s are up to date daily

  • Responsible for husbandry of allocated area ensuring that all procedural requirements are met (e.g., area audits)

  • Demonstrated clear understanding of productivity and cost drivers

  • Responsible for own effective management of Safety, Health, and Environmental aspects

  • Understanding of productivity and cost drivers,

  • Process the manufacturing activities in accordance with the schedules and priorities within own area

Tasks:

  • Precision Manual machining of internal manufactured parts using Milling Machines, Jig borers and Manual Lathes.

  • Capability to produce one-off and small batches of aircraft components from detailed engineering data to a high standard whilst following work card priorities.

  • CNC milling and turning including machine set up and some programming

  • Follow in detail planning instructions and liaise with Manufacturing engineers to identify any problems pre or post job completion.

  • Certification of own work using precision measuring equipment

  • Conduct operator daily maintenance on equipment and keep equipment and work areas clean and tidy

  • Liaise with department Manufacturing Engineers and Fitters when needed and supply updates on jobs in work.

  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with the engineering data

  • Effectively manage the progressive clearance of shop order operation of own local area through in house ERP

  • Liaise with our internal Quality department to ensure all approvals and skill codes are maintained.

  • Work closely as part of a small team of machinists to ensure work is completed on time and budget. This may require regular rotation around various machines.

  • Perform any work-related tasks and duties in accordance with the business needs.

  • Comply with all quality and HSE policies and procedures.

Technical Competencies:

  • Applied or technical knowledge and skills needed for effective performance in the role. i.e., commercial acumen, computer skills etc.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft i.e., Word, Excel

  • High degree of understanding and awareness of Manufacturing software solutions, e.g., IFS,

Education:

  • Apprenticeship, including NVQ Level 2 / City & Guilds or equivalent training

  • Significate experience in metallic machining processes i.e. Turning, Milling and Grinding   

  • The ability to accurately follow detailed engineering drawings, work instructions and specifications

  •  Demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of quality at work Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills

Experience:

  • Understanding of Boeing and Lockheed Martin engineering requirements would be an advantage, but training will be given to the successful applicant.

  • Preferably worked within an organization that practised continuous improvement.
