CIFRE - thesis: Development of resources for and in the activity in a context of triple industrial transition (Digitalization, Tertiarization, Evolution of working populations) - Human Factors stream

Job Description:

Context of the thesis:

The context of the thesis is the digitalisation of the production environement (IOT, digitization of paper media, cobotization, etc.) and implementation of an E2E data continuity especially in relation with the implementation of the DDMS (Digital Design, Manufacturing & Services) philosophy.

This technological transition movement is accompanied by other transitions, including, in particular:

  • A movement of tertiarisation and evolution of professions, with an increasing amount of white collar positions in relation to blue collars positions
  • A demographic change in working populations, linked in particular to the evolution of the age pyramid in France

In order to support this triple technical, organizational and social transition, Airbus Helicopters is questioning the possible effects of these movements both on the quality and safety of the products designed and on the production processes, particularly in relation to quality of the documents, work environments and resources as a whole to coordinate and cooperate in workshops and production lines.

The weakening of this interplay could have also an effect on the occupational health and safety (understood here in a broad sense including physical and psychological dimensions).

Objectives of the thesis:

Faced with these challenges, the CIFRE will have to:

  • characterize the transformations of work that this triple transition induces in the professions of the production (learning path, work content, possibilities for collective work, effects on health/safety and quality/safety, etc.);
  • identify the diversity of digital solutions, but also material, organizational resources (procedures, distribution of tasks and time, etc.) and social (possibility of mutual assistance, discussion of standards relating to know-how and quality of work, etc.) available for production;
  • Identify the dynamics of introducing digital resources into work situations and understand the processes of appropriation of these resources, in particular the continued design data in the use of those resources;

  • Specify the modalities for supporting social, technical and
    organizational aspects of the workshops linked to this triple transition.

This research work will be lead by the central ME department and carried out in partnership with a team of a pilot area.

Two potential areas are pre-identified at this stage:

  • The mechanical workshop which is marked by the introduction of the so-called “Internet of Things” technologies and by the digitalization of technical sheets.
  • A manufacturing line (FAL) which questions the digital coherence of the different IT tools of different generations used throughout the assembly line.

This thesis is offered in cooperation from Airbus Helicopters with Le Centre de Recherche sur le Travail et le Développement du Conservatoire National
des Arts et Métiers (CRTD - le Cnam) and the CESI

This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Company’s success, reputation and sustainable growth.
