This position is for an Engineering Services and Support technician who is under general supervision. Performs basic to moderately complex technical tasks which contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects. Collaborates with higher level support staff to confer with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results. May assist in orienting, training, and assigning work of technical/business support employees.

This role may be eligible for relocation assistance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work under limited supervision to provide technical support to engineers on a variety of engineering tasks
  • Collaborate directly with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results
  • Perform research and engineering laboratory functions involving the layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modification of electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.
  • Set up and operate precision test equipment for alignment, troubleshooting and testing of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Possess a working knowledge of standard test equipment, oscilloscopes, ohmmeters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers etc., as well as a working knowledge of custom-made test equipment including automatic test equipment.
  • Perform failure analysis on electronic circuit card assemblies, electro-mechanical assemblies, and test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic, mechanical, and electro-mechanical hardware and test equipment.
  • Identify, develop, and implement efficiency improvements to existing methods
  • Operate, inspect and maintain test setups and equipment calibration
  • Operate, create and edit software code for numerous testers utilized for new product development
  • Plan and execute experiments and gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes to support engineering disciplines
  • Produce reports and engineering documentation
  • Perform monthly safety and lab organization audits. (EH&S, 5S, and FOD audits).
  • Performs difficult electrical/mechanical repair operations consisting of disassembly and assembly of units. Determines requirements and installs modifications as set forth by engineering
  • Analyzes circuitry and physically checks wiring and operation of various electronic parts, units, and systems components necessary to locate malfunction causes found during testing of components, equipment, or systems.
  • Maintain laboratory aircraft system physical mock ups

Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

  • Must be able to read and understand electronic schematics, design drawings, detailed task procedures
  • Be comfortable using tools and equipment in a hands-on lab environment including mills, saws, grinders, digital multi meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Visio, Lab View, TestStand, IDEC SmartRelay Programming preferred
  • Familiarity with 28 volts dc, 400 hertz AC, and 270 volt dc power circuits
  • Familiar in the use and maintenance of environmental chambers, tensile testers, NI equipment, and custom electromechanical test stands
  • Associates or Bachelor degree preferred
  • Experience in automation, calibration preferred.
  • Ability or desire to create software programs
  • Knowledge of Labview, TestStand, is a plus.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronics/electrical equipment
