Senior Systems Engineer - Requirements Architect (Hybrid)

Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite.  Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.

Collins Aerospace is one of the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products.  The Intelligent Sensors & Space Systems business unit provides products and services to global government and commercial customers that enable mission success in the harshest environments of space, in the air, at sea, and on the ground.  In Space Systems, we design and manufacture Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) and Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) on a number of space platforms including the International Space Station, the current U.S. space suit, unmanned satellites, manned space vehicles such as the Boeing CST-100 Starliner and the Orion (part of the Artemis mission to return humans to the moon), as well as future the of Space Suit Services for space station and lunar missions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join us as a Systems Engineer to as a Requirements Architect to support the design, development, verification & validation, and operational support of ECLSS and ATCS hardware for future space applications. Responsibilities include: interfacing with customers/suppliers/internal stakeholders to understand needs/negotiate assumptions/exceptions/changes, documenting requirements, performing requirements validation, allocating & deriving lower level requirements, capturing requirements traceability and rationale, managing requirements change, documenting requirements compliance and associated risks through the development life cycle.  Additionally, associate would help architect requirements process on key large programs and support a requirements process improvement team with responsibility for: establishing & meeting yearly process improvement milestones, maintaining & delivering relevant process training, creating & maintaining process documentation, management & administration of supporting requirements management tools, identifying/tracking/taking action on requirements metrics, and overall process excellence across the department. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required 
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in DOORS or Jama required, experience in Jama preferred. Skills in Jama REST, DOORS DXL, Rationale Publishing Engine, advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, Powerpoint & VBA, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, MagicDraw & Cameo Modeler are highly desirable.  Experience supporting a hardware development programs from proposal through verification for space flight hardware or equivalent is also desirable. 
  • Ability to work well both independently and within an integrated product development (IPD)  team environment
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent writing & math skills
  • Experience on a hardware development program: proposal/development/manufacture/verification
  • Experience with NASA-based requirements
  • Broad technical engineering knowledge relevant to the design of space flight hardware – performance, mechanical, electrical, software, safety, materials & verification requirements
