The senior communications manager role aligned to our Mechanical Systems strategic business unit is a key player on the Collins Aerospace global communication team. The role’s principal focus is to lead and support the execution of key components of the Mechanical Systems’ integrated communications strategy – leading projects aligned to both marketing and internal/executive communications.

Reporting to the associate director for Mechanical Systems communications, the senior communications manager is responsible for initiating and delivering innovative work through a matrixed, cross-functional team and in a global environment. The senior manager is a very strong writer with the ability to help develop and lead execution of communications plans aligned to both product and employee initiatives. The role is also responsible for some tactical support – including, but not limited to, newsletter/email distribution, video production, town hall management, survey tools and more. The senior manager also collaborates with central Communications teammates and supports/deploys communications best practices to elevate communications efforts across Collins.

Job Description

  • Work with senior leaders to build and execute robust internal and external communication plans
  • Internal/Executive Communications
  • Create timely, relevant, dynamic written communications and presentations
  • Develop and execute change communications plans that are simple, clear and actionable
  • Coordinate town hall meetings – inclusive of agenda setting, presentation development, drafting of scripts and talking points and dry runs with leadership
  • Produce topical and leadership videos and leverage other digital tools and platforms to inform the employee population about progress against business strategies and goals
  • Counsel senior leaders on recommended messaging, channels and timing of key communications that impact the business and employee experience
  • Support employee engagement activities – inclusive of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives such as “Introduce a Girl to Engineering,” Women in Line Leadership (WILL) events and more
  • Develop strategy and coordinate metrics reporting and analysis

Marketing Communications

  • Lead marketing plans as assigned, inclusive of;
  • Plan and execute marketing initiatives to reach the target audience through appropriate channels (trade shows, target email, trade press, social media, e-mail, digital, etc.)
  • Brainstorm and develop ideas for creative marketing campaigns
  • Manage relationships with internal and external vendors to execute promotional events and campaigns
  • Assist in analyzing marketing data (campaign results, conversion rates, traffic etc.) to help shape future marketing strategies

Experiences / Qualifications

  • Minimum of seven to 10 years of communications experience in a corporate environment. Experience in an international environment with a strong manufacturing or technical background is a plus
  • Strong written, verbal and non-verbal communications skills
  • Strong knowledge of internal communications strategies and channels, including effective use of digital and video communications
  • Experience with preparing and presenting materials on behalf of executives
  • Expert with web-based publishing and distribution tools
  • Strong and proven understanding of digital and experiential marketing campaigns that result in strong customer relationships and satisfaction
  • Basic understanding of developing news releases, proactive media pitching, and storytelling that delivers impactful, positive outcomes
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, prioritize and act with a sense of urgency
  • Critical thinker – with an ability to understand complex business issues to craft messages for targeted audience groups
  • Passion for engaging in new and innovative communications driving breakthrough audience experiences
  • Healthy sense of humor, positive outlook and lover of all things team
  • Outstanding executive presence and comfortable working with senior leaders within a dynamic organization
  • Ability to travel 15-20%

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, communications, English, marketing or similar area of study."
