Principal Project Engineer – Secure Processing Solutions (Onsite)

The Secure Processing Solutions (SPS) department is responsible for the design, test and certification of secure mission computers, cross domain technologies, and cryptographic products which equip our warfighters to thrive in today’s multi-domain battlespace. Our department collaborates with portfolio teams across the organization to help capture new business and create security solutions that address our customers’ demanding needs.

The SPS Systems Engineering team is seeking a Project Engineer who has a passion for innovation and the drive to see new technology and capability matured into fielded solutions. This role will contribute to a team that is responsible for systems and cyber security engineering tasks related to next generation cryptographic and cross domain solution technologies, maturing products from customer concepts through accreditation and factory production.

What YOU will do:

  • YOU will work closely with a highly motivated and dedicated team of professionals and other internal/external stakeholders in support of engineering development activities for cross domain products, reporting program status, key performance metrics, and discussion of program issues and concerns.
  • YOU will provide project execution management including detail planning, status and analysis, while also participating in system design and implementation activities where possible.
  • YOU will contribute to the development and cadence cost & schedule execution plans that are in compliance with customer needs and internal Collins processes and procedures; understand risks and variances and assist in the development of mitigation plans; become 100% involved in the day-to-day execution of product development. 
  • YOU will perform project engineering and cost account management for assigned program scope and be cognizant for assigned cost and schedule.
  • YOU will support the development of technical proposals and cost estimates during bid and proposal efforts.
  • YOU will participate in and facilitate Agile team ceremonies, Agile sprint reviews, user story refinement and end of sprint product demos.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

Skills you must have:

  • Experience as a Product Owner and/or Scrum Master.
  • Experience working in an Agile or DevOps development environment and being part of highly integrated Agile teams working closely with multiple engineering development teams (SW, HW, Cyber, SYS).
  • Experience working with and communicating / presenting technical information to various levels of leadership, such as program managers, technical leads (IPTs, Chief Engineers, Architects), and potentially customers.
  • Experience working multiple projects and being responsible for multiple concurrent project milestones with overlapping deadlines.
  • Experience in Systems Engineering process development and deployment.
  • Experience using the Atlassian resource suite, specifically: Jira and Confluence

Skills we value:

  • Active U.S. DoD security clearance
  • Experience with engineering lifecycle management tools / platforms such as Azure DevOps, Cameo, Enterprise Architect, or similar resources
  • Project Management and Systems engineering experience executing development of security hardened systems/products within a classified development environment.
  • Prior experience with bid and pursuit work in an USG DOD acquisition model.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering development process including requirements capture, design, decomposition, integration, verification, and validation.
