Electronics Test Engineering (ETE) designs, integrates, and deploys test solutions for the development, qualification, and production testing of avionic electronic devices. The organization is a cross-functional team of Project Engineers, Circuit Engineers, Software Engineers, Test Requirement Engineers, and Sustainment Engineers. ETE provides a shared service that supports the Program and Product teams, as well as Production facilities around the world.

We are looking to add a Principal Project Engineer to our ETE Sustainment Engineering team, who will be located in Rockford, IL.. Experience and background in electronic technology/engineering as it relates to electronic production testing is desired. This position directs assigned functional resources in support of test solutions for various Electric Power Systems, Air Management Systems and Engine Control Systems to address post warranty opportunities, obsolescence, and the need for additional test capacity.

This position is the primary point of contact for the program office, engineering, and production facilities, to ensure that test solutions are developed on schedule, and within budget.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work in a cross-functional, agile team that includes project, circuits, software, hardware, requirements, and program engineers.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, management, internal & external customers
  • Create Microsoft Project plans for all program activity
  • Support Earned Value Management (EVMS) program requirements
  • Support project quoting efforts (estimates)
  • Lead effort to acquire funding, Capital (eCAR) as well as Expense, and manage the spend of these funds. 
  • Coordinate with the production plant sites, primarily Phoenix and Puerto Rico, for deliverables.
  • Track and ensure configuration control of all test equipment deliverables.
  • Project Engineering/Management of both insourced and outsourced projects. Working with various Business Unit partners to develop a Test Equipment Plan (TEP) that defines the test equipment resource(s) and hours needed, materials and support required, as well as assumptions made while generating the TEP.
  • Strong focus on maintaining internal and external customer satisfaction through quality.
  • Confirm test equipment requirements and design to ensure it meets customer needs and stays within scope and budget.
  • Develop and/or improve project management related processes.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff
  • Some travel may be required, primarily for plant site and supplier visits and is estimated at 10%.  
  • Other activities as directed.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required   https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP a plus
  • SAP enterprise system experience
  • Experience using MS Visio, PowerPoint and Project5+ years of electronic testing experience
  • Experience with planning and tracking program activities
