Seeking a part-time candidate to manage the development and implementation of advanced software solutions for our next generation avionics. This effort will revolve around the design, prototyping, and implementation of avionics software architecture, ensuring compliance with industry standards and optimal performance.

This is a part-time, onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Design: Coordinate the design and development of next-generation avionics software architecture, considering system requirements and ensuring scalability, reliability, and safety.
  • Prototyping Initiatives: Drive and manage prototyping activities, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop proof-of-concept models and evaluate feasibility of new avionics solutions.
  • Project Management: Work closely with a highly motivated and dedicated team of professionals and other internal/external stakeholders in support of engineering development activities for cross domain products, reporting program status, key performance metrics, and discussion of program issues and concerns.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the software development team, fostering innovation and maintaining high coding standards.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with stakeholders, including hardware engineers, system architects, and external partners, to align software development with overall project goals.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement robust testing methodologies and quality control measures to ensure avionics software meets stringent safety and performance standards.
  • Cost Estimation: Development of technical proposals and cost estimates during bid and proposal efforts.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven experience (minimum 8 years) in software engineering with a focus on avionics systems or embedded software development
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, and experience with real-time operating systems
  • Strong understanding of avionics standards (DO-178C, ARINC 653, etc.) and familiarity with aerospace protocols and regulations
  • Excellent project management skills, including Agile methodologies and tools
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a passion for innovation in aerospace technology

This role is also eligible for the Re-Empower Program. The Re-Empower Program helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey.
