Vehicle Dynamics Controls Developer - ARS

Job Description

This position is classified as a Hybrid position, meaning the successful candidate will work at our Markham and/or Oshawa office three (3) days per week.

The Vehicle Dynamics Controls team is part of the Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) organization, and we are responsible for several critical and exciting vehicle dynamics features, including Active Rear Steering (ARS), Vehicle Motion Control (VMC), and trailer braking control. In partnership with our advance controls team and systems engineering, we develop controls and diagnostics algorithms from inception all the way to production on almost all GM vehicles. We are organized into agile scrum teams and our controls developers work collaboratively to achieve the Agile Release Train and individual scrum team objectives. As Controls Developer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and implementing controls and diagnostics algorithms for our in-house ARS system. You will work on the ARS features on GM’s new Software Defined Vehicle platform that will enable continuous innovation that is focused on delivering the ever-evolving customer needs and dreams. You will be an integral part of the requirements development process. You will have the opportunity to create advanced algorithm to deliver to the requirements with full complement of support from various experts, including scrum manager and system architect. You will work in partnership with test engineering to ensure highest quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of various ARS features in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Develop and implement control and diagnostic algorithms using advanced tools such as MATLAB or C.

  • Collaborate with Systems and Sub-Systems Engineers to define vehicle, sub-system, and behavioral requirements.

  • Meet higher level physics-based requirements with efficient designs using modeling, simulation, data collection, and analysis.

  • Analyze vehicle dynamic conditions and provide feedback on feature/system design.

  • Define software unit tests, conduct Software/hardware-in-the-loop and vehicle tests, and ensure thorough software testing.

  • Support resolution of vehicle, plant, or customer issues related to controls and calibration.

  • Works cross-functionally with System Engineers, Software Engineers, Feature/Function Engineers, Calibrators, Scrum Manager and Scrum Leader to ensure robust design.

  • Mentor new team members to foster capability growth and knowledge sharing.

  • Travel as required to Michigan, U.S.A. Average travel is about 2 weeks a year.

Additional Job Description

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or related engineering discipline.

    • Minimum 2+ years Engineering experience related to vehicle dynamics embedded controls and/or controls development.

    • Proficiency in Model-Based coding (MATLAB) or C programming.

    • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics and motion control principles.

    • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and drive results in a fast-paced environment with sometimes incomplete requirements.

    • Excellent communication skills and a passion for innovation in automotive technology.

    • Must have the credentials to travel to the U.S.

    • Must have a valid full driver’s license.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • MS or PhD in Engineering with focus on controls.

    • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamic systems especially Steering systems and Vehicle Motion Control.

    • Experience in plant modeling and analysis tools, MIL, SIL, HIL Testing

    • Knowledge of and experience in Behavioral/Test Driven Development methodology.

    • Expertise in hand-code development of controls algorithms
