We are actively seeking a highly skilled Trade Assistant to bolster the Space Surveillance Telescope Team stationed at the Harold E. Holt Defence Precinct in Exmouth, Western Australia’s north west. This strategic location plays a critical role in national defence, housing both the Space Surveillance Telescope and the C-Band Radar.

These facilities are key components of a worldwide network committed to detecting, tracking, identifying, and cataloguing objects in space. As a Trade Assistant, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside technicians, engineers, system administrators, and other specialized roles. Your contributions will be vital in maintaining and optimizing one of the world's most advanced telescopes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist technicians, engineers, system administrators, and specialized team members in routine and preventative maintenance of the Space Surveillance Telescope.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities to ensure the optimal performance of telescope equipment.
  • Contribute to the overall safety and efficiency of the work environment by following established procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborate with team members to conduct tests and validations, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the telescope's systems.
  • Responsible for, equipment, and materials, ensuring they are well-maintained and securely stored.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the supporting infrastructure, advanced optical systems, technical equipment, and tooling, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
  • Uphold rigorous safety standards to ensure both personal and team well-being, in line with organizational and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of work areas and equipment to identify and rectify potential hazards proactively.
  • Operate and assist with lifting equipment such as cranes and Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs) to safely manoeuvre heavy components, adhering to industry best practices and safety protocols.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Dogging, Basic Rigging and Intermediate rigging
  • Bridge Gantry Crane High Risk Work Licence
  • Forklift Licence
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in a relevant field
  • “C” class driver’s licence.
