Tax Specialist Section Manager

Mission:
 

Reporting to the European Regional Manager of Tax Compliance & Controversy, and, working as part of the Nissan Europe Central Tax team, to be responsible for tax compliance for the Nissan group in France, partner and interact with the business to provide tax expertise and advice, and participate in tax aspects of projects and planning for the Nissan group in Europe. 

Main Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, with a proactive compliance mind-set to identify and take action to mitigate tax risks.   The person will be specifically responsible for tax matters in France, including compliance, liaising with the French Tax Authority and managing tax inspections and disputes.  Providing advice and expertise on French taxes to the group. 
  • Proactively partner with the business to provide French tax expertise and assistance, which includes:
  • Performing tax research for planning and projects to propose innovative tax planning opportunities and solutions which minimise tax risk and optimise costs.
  • Assessing and evaluating the tax consequences of planning ideas and new business initiatives.
  • Providing the business with ongoing and ad hoc tax advisory services.
  • Working with other Nissan tax professionals and managing external tax advisors as the tax interlocutor for cross-border projects and international transactions.
  • Support the global and regional tax teams in the identification, evaluation, development, and execution of strategies and planning to manage taxes for the group.
  • Keeping up-to-date on French and international tax law developments and to provide analysis and guidance to ensure on-going compliance and/or to identify opportunities and risks.
  • Working in collaboration with other functions, e.g. Accounting, Financial Planning & Control, Treasury, Internal Audit, HR and Legal, to deliver internal tax expertise to the business. 
  • Supporting the finance function on tax provisions and tax accounting.
  • Supporting non-tax colleagues via tax training and education.
  • Working with the Regional Tax Planning and Projects and the Transfer Pricing teams, as needed, to ensure end-to-end oversight and tax function alignment for tax planning and projects, as well as for French tax matters.

Background and Experience:

  • Qualified as a tax professional (accountant/lawyer/tax specialist) with at least a Master Degree in Tax or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. CPA, ACA, CTA).
  • Min. 5 years’ post qualification experience in tax, either in a professional firm or an in-house role.
  • French tax expertise is essential.  International and cross-border tax experience is highly desirable. Knowledge of tax in jurisdictions other than France, and familiarity with transfer pricing principles a plus.

Soft skills:

  • Be fluent in French and English to a business professional level
  • Have demonstrated practical experience of managing taxation in France
  • Be highly organized, proactive and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while keeping to sometimes tight deadlines.
  • Have demonstrated experience in working as part of a regional or global tax team and working remotely with colleagues located in multiple geographical locations.
