The Electro-mechanical Interface Devices (EMIDs) Senior Engineer will work with integrated product teams to develop new aircraft engine control system products. The position requires a seasoned project engineer to accept a high level of responsibility within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

The EMIDs Senior Engineer will be responsible for all technical aspects of electromechanical devices used to interface electronic controls with mechanical systems. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the project technical execution of EMIDS design from requirement development, design, verification, and validation through production incorporation using Engineering standard work.

  • Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed to commitments.

  • Generate and maintain project schedules with understood dependencies, deliveries, and critical path.

  • Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget and schedule.

  • Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership. 

  • Confidently and independently provide clear, concise communications to peers and Collins leadership.

  • Manage and coordinate hardware development configurations throughout the engineering process.

  • Development and review of system concepts and design requirements

  • Lead investigation of issues found in service or engine tests.

  • Conduct research and select electromechanical devices for specific application in Collins products.

  • Review of component interface documents and supplier manufacturing drawings

  • Understand, develop, and execute development and qualification test procedures and reports.

  • Analyze, interpret, and report out test results.

  • Verify internal processes are being executed to reduce probability of engineering setbacks.

  • Read and interpret drawings, provide mark ups, and coordinate drawing releases.

  • Creates schedule and project budgets for new business proposals.

  • Implement CORE Tools and processes to ensure robust RCCA.

  • Review of supplier technical capabilities

  • Support of cost and weight reduction activities

  • Support of process improvement activities and Engineering Standard Work

  • Alignment of supplier technology readiness with Collins advanced control systems plans.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Programs and/or project management skills preferred.

  • Experience working with electrical circuits, electromechanics and hydraulics.

  • Working knowledge of magnetics, electronics, instrumentation, motion control, servomechanisms, sensors, and effectors. 

  • Familiarity with 3D design tools, engineering materials and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience using Microsoft Suite including Excel, Word, VISIO, PowerPoint, and Project.

  • Experience working on multiple projects with competing priorities simultaneously is preferred.

  • Experience working with cross functional teams across department and business units is preferred.
