The Avionics Design & Support team in the Computing Products department has an opening for a Senior Electrical Engineer at Collins Aerospace. Our team is responsible for the development and sustainment of state of the art avionics hardware products including integrated processing cabinets, display processing modules, and control panels used in a variety of Air Transport and Business & Regional platforms. 

Our products employ the following technologies and interfaces; Airborne Electronic Hardware (including FPGA, CPLD, ASICs), embedded processing resources (PowerPC, Intel, and ARM), avionics interfaces (including ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, I2C, SPI, Ethernet), video interfaces (including SMPTE, analog, DVI, DisplayPort). 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Project Engineer and Control Account Management (PE/CAM), with an ability to lead a team and communicate well with internal and external customers. 
  • Designing circuit / board layout to support product lifecycle
  • Working through product recertification (TSO or PMA) driven by a minor/major changes
  • Extracting cost savings solutions to the overall standard cost of the product.
  • Supporting production to achieve on time delivery goals
  • Resolving product issues and technical inquiries from our OEM customers
  • Troubleshooting returned equipment from the field or OEM assembly line
  • Evaluating product part change notifications (obsolete parts, end of life parts, etc)
  • Mentoring engineers on the team.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience ​
  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

  • Effective and easily-engaged communicator
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with various teams/disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to identify complex problems, evaluate options, and develop solutions
  • Energetic and proactive self-starter that builds sound, collaborative relationships
  • Strong background in electronic components and circuit design.
  • This position requires a commitment to professional working hours that extend beyond a typical 40 hours work week.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hardware requirements development including working with systems and subsystems teams to determine meaningful and testable requirements for the design
  • Experience working with standard lab equipment for integration testing of hardware designs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members independently on assigned tasks.
  • Schematic capture of digital/analog mixed signal electrical circuit designs 
  • Printed board (PWB) layout expertise 
  • Interfacing with complex embedded devices (microprocessors, graphics processors, memory) 
  • Digital logic device development (including FPGA and ASIC development) 
  • Formal qualification experience (preferred DO-160 or MIL-STD-810/MIL-STD-461 standards)
  • Understanding of Design to Cost (DTC+), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT)
