Principal Project Engineer - Avionics Test Engineering (Onsite)
The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is looking for a motivated individual to enhance our team as a Principal Project Engineer leading multidisciplinary teams of engineers developing complex engineering solutions.
The Avionics Test Engineering organization is a global engineering organization responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of manufacturing test solutions in support of the $5B Avionics strategic business unit, as well as external customers including armed services and airlines both domestic and international.
As a key member of the Avionics Test Engineering leadership team, the Project Engineer drives successful execution of test solution projects from inception, through deployment to customers and provides long-term support. Typical test solutions include Optical, In-circuit Test, Boundary Scan, as well as COTS components such as switch systems, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies and other related equipment. Solutions are coupled with custom software for performing Environmental Stress Screening as well as testing circuit card assemblies and top-level products.

The role includes collaborating with engineers and leaders, at various locations around the globe, to ensure project success. Organizationally, the role reports to an Engineering Manager in the Avionics Test Engineering organization.
Responsibilities:
- Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making in a hybrid Agile / Waterfall project management environment.
- Utilize Agile and Waterfall tools to manage projects.
- Generate metrics for presentations and to forecast future performance.
- Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed to commitments.
- Generate and maintain project schedules with understood dependencies, deliveries, and critical path.
- Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget and schedule.
- Ensure project meets quality expectations.
- Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership.
- Prepare well-crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams.
- Develop Engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gaining organizational buy-in.
Basic Qualifications:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- An engineering degree and minimum 5 years of technical experience in at least one of the following engineering disciplines: systems, mechanical, electrical, or software.
- Project leadership experience leading multidiscipline engineering teams and managing customer relationships.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to effectively execute multiple active projects with scope comprised of numerous intricate requirements.
- Proficiency with developing and maintaining schedules using Microsoft Project and ability to master proprietary software.
- An acumen for Earned Value management and proficiency with Risk and Opportunity management.
- Experience developing and maintaining strong business partnerships with customers and influencing effective collaboration with all project stakeholders.
