WHAT TO EXPECT



The Manufacturing Manager will lead and direct all production, maintenance and quality activities for the Halewood Press Shop. The Press Shop supplies pressed panels into numerous car plants both in the UK and around the world. The role also has overall accountability for the production control and delivery of all production targets, activities and associated Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, People and Environment metrics for the area.

 

Reporting to the Stampings & BIW Technology Manager, this role has significant people management responsibility (leading over 450 people) across a wide variety of disciplines following lean principles and the company’s recognised Integrated Production System. The role will also be responsible for continuous improvement activities in all aspects of delivery, seeking and sharing best practice across the Group as well as the wider JLR production network and building on relationships with the key suppliers and benchmarking.

 

THE ROLE



Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead, engage and develop a large team of JLR associates, engineers and managers
  • Manage the day-to-day production, maintenance and quality functions for the Press Shop area
  • Provide a safe working environment and safety leadership across the area
  • Ensure all potential risks are identified and mitigated with strict process adherence and all corrective actions are implemented from any accidents
  • Lead delivery of efficiencies in process to deliver year-on-year productivity
  • Manage the cost budget to include labour, consumables, scrap, repairs and service contracts and continually seeks efficiencies in all areas
  • Developing five-year strategy including non-product capital expenditure projects to maintain and improve the current facilities and process
  • Work closely with the Stamping Engineering teams in Press Shop Technology Forum to develop and share best practices, process improvements including working closely with our key suppliers

 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Successful experience of engaging, developing and leading multi-skilled teams in multi-shift operations
  • Extensive previous experience of Production Management at senior management level including consistent delivery of productivity targets in high pressure, fast-paced lean manufacturing environments
  • Proven experience of a vehicle build and delivery processes and procedures, previous stamping experience being a prerequisite
  • Thorough understanding and experience of Lean and Engineering/Manufacturing Processes, Tools and Techniques
  • Demonstrable experience in the application of a logical approach to problem solving
  • Working knowledge and experience of delivering safety metrics
  • Proven project management experience and the ability to work within tight deadlines and be able to manage and prioritise multiple activities simultaneously
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse set of stakeholders at all levels; including delivering presentations to work groups and senior management
  • Experience and working knowledge of Health and Safety Audits and ergonomics including risk assessments, LOLA and PUWER regulations

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

 

  • Demonstrable knowledge of Legislative and Industry Standards in Automotive, and experience of working in partnership with a Trade Union preferred
