Job Summary:

F135 engine instructors are the key providers of propulsion knowledge and skill training to operators of the F-35 aircraft.  Working at the Academic Training Center on Eglin AFB, FL, instructors provide critical engine construction and operation information as well as significant hands-on training to ensure graduates are capable of maintaining their respective assets.  Additionally, F135 engine instructors sustain the F-35 propulsion training system courseware and devices through physical visits to various training locations, both domestic and international.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform both classroom and hands-on instructing in the areas of engine construction and operation, engine maintenance, and Field Service Engineer responsibilities.
  • Apply knowledge of Export Administration Regulations and International Traffic in Arms Regulations in determining the suitability of an audience to receive controlled information.  Ensure export licenses are active when conducting training with non-US students.  Maintain all training and export records in a continuously auditable condition.
  • Apply experience gained in previous aviation maintenance positions related to safety, supply management, support equipment management, and foreign object damage (FOD) prevention.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of deployed course materials and document areas of obsolescence and inaccuracies for action by the curriculum development group.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on training engines, training mock-ups, support equipment, and hand tools at Eglin AFB as well as conduct periodic on-site assessments of other training sites at various domestic and international locations.  Coordinate parts replacement orders through initial order, issue, installation, and turn-in as required.
  • International and domestic travel is 20%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, Program Management, Workforce Education, or Education and Training preferred. Or, associate degree or two years of post-high school training and a minimum of 12 years of prior military jet engine instructor (NEC 9502 or AFSC 8T000), or civilian equivalent, with four years of specific F135 experience in teaching, flight-line, back-shop, depot operations, Field Service Engineer, or Customer Service Engineer.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • International and domestic travel is 20%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers in front of various sized domestic and international audiences.
