Job Summary:

The Common Electronic Products Department is seeking an electrical engineering leader with experience in engineering management, design, components, obsolescence, PCB Manufacturing, Circuit Card Assembly, and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects. The Technical Staff Section Leader will utilize advanced technical knowledge, and an understanding of the impact of this work on other areas of the organization.

The candidate will work with the Engineering organization to establish technology roadmaps, enable modernization, refine processes and contribute to technical innovation. The candidate will work closely with other section leaders, the department leader, the program management office, senior managers, senior staff engineers, systems engineers, and other development team members.

Responsibilities will be split between supporting program(s) as an engineer (~75%) and providing functional leadership to the section (~25%).

Section Leader Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Manage a section of 10 to 20 multidisciplined senior staff engineers
  • Develop training curricula
  • Technical mentoring
  • Direct strategic planning, technical problem solving, project leadership, proposal writing, pursuing new business, managing budgets and schedules
  • Lead functional and cross-disciplinary teams to meet organizational goals and project needs
  • Support hiring (resume reviews, interviews, etc.)
  • Solicit and compile performance feedback to support Performance Impact
  • Hold required formal Mid-Year and Year-End Performance Impact (PI) discussions where compiled feedback, key strengths and development needs are conveyed

Engineering Responsibilities to Anticipate:

The engineering responsibilities for this position would support many facets of the Circuit Card Design Process and E3 design and analysis activities within the Common Electronic Products Department.  Some of these responsibilities include:

  • Support and/or drive department initiatives and goals
  • Effective and efficient program execution to reduce risk/cost through engagement with program IPTs
  • Be an active participant on the functional leadership team supporting business activities within the Electrical Products team at RMD
  • Coordination with Lab
  • Lead functional or cross-disciplinary teams to meet organizational goals and project needs 

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mathematics, Physics, or other related discipline
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of professional experience to include technical expertise in at least two (2) of the following:
    • Electrical Component evaluation and validation for design and usage within the intended product environment.
    • Printed Circuit Board and Circuit Card Assembly producibility and manufacturability assessments, including design to cost and yield improvements.
    • Communication with suppliers and other functional disciplines (mechanical, supply chain, quality, etc.)
    • Electrical Product project management, coordination of meetings, action items, and project schedule.
    • EMI/EMC design, analysis, and test or RF Safety and Spectrum Management
    • Creation and documentation of the characteristics of a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design from conception to manufacturing that includes library part creation, schematic capture, component placement, routing, gerber / ODB++ file creation, and all documentation using the Mentor Graphics and BluePrint.      
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizen are eligible for a security clearance.

An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for 2 additional years of experience. 

Qualifications We Value:

  • Experience serving as a Responsible Engineering Authority (REA), Control Account Manager (CAM), and/or Integrated Product Team Lead (IPTL)
  • Failure investigation, root cause identification, and corrective action implementation
  • Development of technical proposals, engineering project estimates, and/or white papers
  • Experience creating and presenting professional level design documentation to company leadership and program customers
  • Experience with manpower planning and staffing forecasts
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems
