Application Team Manager

Asapplication manager of the local devops team, you will play a key role in transforming our organization to become fully aligned with the needs of our internal customer: the VCG plant when it comes to IT support for our critical used applications.

You will join the Volvo Cars Manufacturing Digital team and will be based in our plant in Ghent. Our team is consisting of colleagues in several roles, who are globally located and have a global manufacturing digital responsibility.

What you’ll do?

Amongst other things:

You will have people responsibility:

  • Lead and develop a team of hardworking engineers through, servant leadership, mentoring, continuously inspiring and providing feedback.
  • You are the people manager for the team and responsible for all HR employee related processes (e.g., goal setting, team member reviews, succession planning, application dept performance and results)
  • Recruit highly skilled individuals in line with identifiedcompetence needs.
  • Ensure, through streamlined execution and experimentation, that our solutions meet the needs of our customers quickly and accurately with a focus on stable operations and adequate support.
  • Proactively work with competence development to assure the right competence in line with long term technical strategies.
  • Fostering a cohesive and high-performing team, ensuring effective support for applications.

Enable execution and alignment:

  • Sit in the center of the team and drive the execution and secure we have a high motivated team that feel a joint responsibility for what we deliver.
  • You support the team in defining the working methodology / ways of working.
  • Listen closely to, identify, and solve escalated team impediments with main attention on flow and escalate when needed.
  • Have a business perspective and together with your peers from infrastructure and factory support, take ownership to deliver on our transformation journey.
  • Collaborate with other team and engineering leaders across the organization (both Application Team Managers from the other plants as well as product team engineering Managers).
  • Ensure process adherence, encompassing incident, problem, change management and process documentation, including capturing and reporting KPI’s and metrics.
  • Act as the local contact for business and internal digital customers, regarding application services provided to the site.

Guide technically:

  • You align with the strategy Operations team to understand the overall technology strategy of the company. You support and are a stakeholder of the technology roadmap for the area.
  • You actively participate in technical discussions to stay updated in your technology domain to guide and coach your team.

Do you fit the profile?

To be successful in this role we believe you will have:

  • Experience as a servant leader and lead by example.
  • Experience with mentoring and coaching as well as capacity to create an environment that fosters high performance teams.
  • Technical experience with/ knowledge of databases, SW development platforms, frameworks such as: Java, Azure cloud, OpenShift, Spring,) Messaging (MQ, Kafka, …), but also about backlog management, business relationship management, problem analysis.
  • Experience from working with Level-2 support tasks in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Agile ways of working in a global context.
  • Fluent in both Dutch and English
