Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager, the V&V Lead Systems Engineer is required to provide requirements, design, verification and validation support to the assigned project. The Lead Systems Engineer will apply advanced technical theories, methodologies, principles and expertise to provide innovative solutions to the current phase of the project, taking cognizance of cost and schedule constraints whilst ensuring adherence to processes.

As V&V Lead Systems Engineer you will work in conjunction with other project team members to ensure that products and systems are efficiently developed and perform as intended to meet customer and business requirements.  Working in a transdisciplinary manner to ensure that all elements of the system will perform as intended together as well as, analyse, specify, design, verify and validate the system to ensure that its functional, interface, performance, physical, and other quality characteristics, and cost are balanced to meet the needs of the system stakeholders. 

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Confirm that requirements are verifiable
  • Perform systems analysis to derive function, performance and interface requirements to satisfy the system requirements.
  • Perform system design activities (including trade studies)
  • Maintain the design of the system including the specifications and interface requirements specifications as required.
  • Perform technical risk analysis as required.
  • Estimation of V&V effort to complete the project.
  • Understand the systems engineering methodology, tools and procedures required to complete the systems engineering tasks assigned.
  • Identify project and product risks and escalate using the project’s defined processes.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Participate in major reviews throughout the lifecycle
  • Where this position reports day-to-day to a specific program or project,
  • Undertake travel as required, both within Australia and internationally, to fulfil the requirements of this role.
  • Other duties as deemed relevant to program and operational requirements and within the technical competency of the position.
  • This position will operate within a matrix organisation and may be embedded within a project or program. Therefore, it is expected that if this position has a matrix reporting line through to a Function, the position incumbent will adhere to appropriate discipline-specific standards and processes.

Skills and experience to support success in this position

Essential

  • Systems engineering with extensive experience in the engineering design, development and management of systems/products requirements, involving elements such as System Safety, Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Deplorability, Transportability, Human Factors, Security and Privacy.
  • Advanced technical skilled in providing technical solutions, integration, verification and validation.
  • Experienced with environmental and EMI standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, DEF(AUST) 5168 or similar.
  • Extensive experience as a systems engineer throughout the entire systems development process, including requirements capture, design, decomposition, integration, and verification/validation, as well as transition to production.
  • Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to travel to support customer meetings in Australia (flexibility and notice will be given).

Desirable

  • Proficiency in systems engineering, including in open systems architectures and secured cloud-based technologies.
  • Prior experience with bid and pursuit work in an Australian government acquisition model.
  • Familiarity with engineering development in an agile and DEVSECOPS environment.
  • Experience managing major/complex projects, involving delegation of work and review of others' work products.
  • Experienced in providing guidance, coaching and training to other employees within work area.
