Hybrid: This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Warren, MI) three times per week, at minimum.

We have an exciting opening for you to join our team here at General Motors! The Vehicle Software Integration team is rich in electrical and software systems integration experience and is on the cutting edge of GMs next generation of vehicles. The Vehicle Software Integration Engineer (VSIE) is a high-profile role that will give you opportunity to lead the charge as a recognized leader in the software systems integration space. Your work will help to solidify the foundational pieces of GM's exciting lineup of ICE and EV vehicles through detailed system integration work within the Vehicle Intelligent Platform (VIP and Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architectures.

The role is unparalleled in the wealth of knowledge gained and provides a diverse environment of dynamic learning opportunities as the center point of anomaly identification, cause and resolution. You will find yourself as the focal point and one of the first to touch the integration of new features, technology and content staging the platform for tomorrow.

The Vehicle Software Integration Engineer (VSIE) is responsible for the integration and high-level testing of vehicle electronic control systems on New/Major/Mid-Cycle vehicle development programs. This includes the serial data interfaces, software functionality, diagnostics, flash programming as well as End of Line processing data. New/Major/Mid-Cycle vehicle programs may include advanced/new architectures, technology and electronics built in multiple vehicle assembly plants globally. A high level of independent work and strong initiative is required. The VSIE may exercise technical direction over other engineers or engineering support personnel and may have work direction responsibilities over a group with specific engineering objectives.

What You’ll do:

  • Leads and performs bench-level CG4076 Design Integration Testing (DIT) of software releases prior to vehicle builds and rides in order to identify and resolve significant software integration issues. (Coordinates with Bench Lead Engineers, Controls Managers, Validation, and DRE's)
  • Provide full system integration support to full electrical system benches to include flash programming, integration, root cause and troubleshooting support for software issues constraining the property.
  • Participate in escalation and collaboration discussions (as required) and provide feedback to management teams on all issues that impact software or timing.
  • Contribute/lead initiatives to drive quality while increasing throughput through automation.
  • Support/Conduct Readiness Testing with Assembly Verification team.
  • Support pre-production data file readiness and software assessment and create pre-production Software and Calibrations documentation.
  • Support pre-production and production build activities and vehicle ride trips when requested.
  • Monitor End of Line Test results during vehicle launch and assist in investigation of issues.
  • Support root-cause effort for problem resolution to component level
  • Plans and implements test and/or development programs
  • Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers
  • Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
  • Minimal travel as needs arise.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's in Engineering: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aeronautical Engineering; Computer Science or Information Technology
  • 2+ years of work experience (outside of internship and co-op)
  • Experience with common electrical test equipment (meter, scopes, etc.)
  • Experience with serial data communication protocols (GMLAN, LIN, Ethernet etc.)
  • Experience with common serial data test equipment (NeoVI (Vehicle Spy), DPS Tool, etc.)
  • Experience with automotive electrical systems and functional sub-systems

  • 5+ years of work experience (outside of internship and co-op)
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical/software systems
  • Specific knowledge of engineering subject area (e.g. mechanics, physics, metallurgy, manufacturing methods, electronics, software, control systems) within job-related area
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and effectively with others
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area
