Technician, Service Shop

Job Description:The Service Shop Technician diagnoses, repairs, and maintains Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) vehicles and pre-delivery inspections (PDI) to prepare vehicles for fleet service. The Service Shop Technician also supports the Technical Services Division and other departments by performing product investigations, providing technical knowledge, and validating written service procedures.

Major Areas of Responsibility (MAR):

Vehicle Maintenance and Repair - 35%

  • Perform vehicle maintenance following Mazda standards.
  • Diagnose and repair vehicle issues (bumped-to-bumper)
  • Use Mazda service information, diagnostic tools, and equipment to pinpoint problems and determine appropriate repairs.
  • Complete all open campaigns for employee lease vehicles.
  • Comprehensive documentation of vehicle issues (e.g., complaint, cause, and correction) following MNAO standards.

Pre-Delivery Inspections - 35%

  • Receive vehicles from the port, inspect and document any transport damage.
  • Perform Pre-Delivery Inspections, including adjusting tire pressure, fluid levels, software updates, etc. per MNAO standards.
  • Install Dealer Installed Options (DIO) accessories.
  • Wash, clean and prep vehicle for employee distribution.

Technical Support - 25%

  • Support the Product Quality team's investigations and repairs as needed.
  • Document and report product quality concerns to internal teams.
  • Complete root cause analysis and report findings with internal departments for unrepaired retail buy-back vehicles.
  • Validate workshop manual repair procedures, Technical Service Bulletins, and Service Campaigns.
  • Perform time studies to validate and confirm warranty time standards and dealer appeals.

Service Shop Support - 5%

  • Test tools, equipment, and systems to ensure they are functioning properly.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and tools.
  • Document internal processes in support of ongoing process improvement.
  • Support additional departments such as Motorsports, Marketing and PR as needed.

Qualifications and Other Requirements:

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience as an automotive technician and/or completion of an accredited automotive technical training program, including working knowledge of vehicle mechanical and electrical components, and diagnostic systems.

Preferred but not required:

  • Automotive diagnostic troubleshooting.
  • Mazda Master/Senior Technician status.

Training/Certification:

  • ASE Master Technician certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license for state of residence is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • A mechanical aptitude, including solid eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment.
  • Must be well-versed in complex mechanical and electronic systems of vehicles.
  • Ability to use and read tools and equipment with high precision and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and required safety precautions.
  • Consistently maintain and demonstrate a high regard for personal safety, and for the safety of company assets and others in the workplace.
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, as well as the ability to learn and effectively utilize other software applications used within the Company.
  • Well-balanced interpersonal skills; Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management, employees, customers, and outside vendors; Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate both orally and in writing, using good grammatical form, both in general correspondence, as well as on technical issues.
  • Must be analytical and a problem solver with the ability to identify problems and/or cause-effect relationships; identify key issues; secure relevant information from all appropriate sources; identify possible root causes of problems and implement corrective actions for resolution.
  • Must be accountable and take direction from Managers; follow work rules; keep required work schedules, which include regular and predictable job attendance.
  • Must follow all established policies and procedures.

Pay Range:

$21.88-$30.06

Salary to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
