Technician- Engineering, Maintenance & Technical Support (EMTS)

Job Description

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to [Warren, MI] on a full-time basis. It is a 2nd shift opportunity.

The Role

We are seeking an EMTS (Engineering Maintenance & Technical Support) Technician to support the development/validation, maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment and systems within the Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center (WBCIC). The WBCIC environment is fast paced and quickly evolving as GM refines battery cell technology and manufacturing processes. This role includes development and delivery of new manufacturing and test equipment, procedures and processes, as well as maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of existing manufacturing and test equipment.  A strong analytical and problem-solving mindset is key to accomplishing objectives and assignments with the support of management and engineers. You will work as an integral member of a cross-functional product development team with skillsets in the following areas: electrical and mechanical systems, controls systems, prototype development, troubleshooting/diagnosis and repair, as well as testing. In addition to hands on work, you will be creating and developing standard work for maintenance and repair tasks for new and existing equipment.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

In this role, you will:

  • Be the technical support for battery cell manufacturing equipment activities with a focus on hands on work to assist engineering and operations teams in their day to day tasks.

  • Follow all corporate safety standards and site safety policies (g-Risk, g-Comply, PTP, Lockout, chemical management, etc.)

  • Effectively work both independently as well as with multi-disciplined teams to understand functional requirements and implement appropriate solutions.

  • Generate technical solutions for current and future projects & equipment.

  • Write standard work for maintenance tasks as well as repair tasks, including Pre-Task Plans.

  • Understand and work to timelines and milestones for projects/assignments to meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.

  • Utilize strong oral and written communication skills to communicate complex material.

  • Utilize strong organization skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

  • Develop the ability to navigate ambiguity and effectively manage change in a fast-paced environment.

  • Maintain understanding of new technologies, processes and products.

  • Actively identify new areas for learning and take advantage of learning opportunities.

  • Focus on continuous improvement for existing equipment and processes.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 2-year technical degree or 5+yrs experience in a manufacturing/maintenance/testing environment.

  • General understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation for mechanical, electrical and controls systems.

  • Ability to problem solve in an environment where problems are complex and challenging.

  • Ability to work hands on with various tools/systems/chemicals in a laboratory environment.

  • Ability to use MS Office Suite tools: Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Knowledge of battery cell manufacturing and/or testing process

  • Experience with battery cell manufacturing equipment maintenance and/or repair

  • Experience in launching new equipment and processes

  • Experience with GM purchasing processes

  • Experience with GM Lean Principles

  • Familiarity with GM Workplace Safety Systems Elements (SCM, MOC, SIF, Risk Identification, PTP)

  • DFSS Green Belt Certification
