Job Summary:

The Airborne Surveillance RF Sensors Department within the Space and Air Sensors Systems Integration and Test directorate of Raytheon seeks a Systems Engineer for a responsible engineer position in the position, navigation, and timing (PNT) domain. This individual will provide technical leadership and supplier oversight for a major upgrade to the navigation subsystem of the AN/APS-154 Advanced Airborne Sensor (AAS). The role includes responsibility for engineering activities such as integration, testing, and troubleshooting of delivered units, technical oversight of supplier non-recurring engineering (NRE) and production efforts, and communication with program leadership and customer engineering staff. This position is an onsite role.

The Responsible Engineer needs to be an effective communicator, technical leader, and decision maker, and a strong advocate for systems engineering development, integration, and production quality. The role requires recent experience in the PNT domain to understand, verify, validate, and qualify/accept supplier designs and deliveries.

The Responsible Engineer interacts frequently with program lead systems engineers, chief engineers, and integrated product team leads. This position requires both technical evaluation and frequent communication.

This position is an onsite role at our Dallas, TX facility. 10-15% travel to Raytheon and supplier sites is anticipated.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Participation in definition of PNT subsystem requirements development and supplier flowdown
  • Development of Supplier Statements of Work (SSOWs)
  • Participation in program Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) development and approval
  • Technical Oversight of supplier PNT subsystem NRE and production activities
  • Participation in monthly program technical meetings with customer
  • Technical leadership as a PNT subsystem Subject Matter Expert across AAS programs including incremental development, production, and sustainment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and ten (10) years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and eight (8) years of relevant experience OR in absence of a degree, fourteen (14) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Typically, a minimum of 10 years related systems engineering and/or test engineering experience in the space & airborne weapon systems domain.
  • Knowledge of current and evolving PNT architectures and interfaces.
  • Experience providing technical oversight for subcontractors and/or component suppliers.
  • Practiced at preparing management level briefings.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or another related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience with navigation systems for DoD air or space programs
  • Experience with integration and production for DoD airborne platforms or systems
  • Experience in verification and validation of system and/or subsystem requirements.
  • Proficient with requirements decomposition, flow-down and verification.
  • Proficient with Systems Development and Integration and Test best practices.
  • Experience in the front end of the business including proposal estimation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and dynamic environment.
  • Experience in a direct customer facing role.

This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process.
