Collins Aerospace is a world leader in wireless communications networking, with products such as high-data-rate HF/VHF/UHF modems and the Self Configuring Relay Network (SCRN) for ad-hoc wireless networks.  Collins Aerospace is developing the next generation of HF radios that support significant throughput improvements and ad-hoc networking features, as well as developing Software Defined Radio networking waveforms for customers around the world.   We are seeking enthusiastic and creative people to join our team in Ottawa.  This role is an individual contributor, working under direction of technical leadership.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participate in definition, specification and design of software features for Software Defined Radios;
  • Work in a team and individually to develop software according to design and customer requirements;
  • Perform hands on integration and testing of Radio Frequency (RF) communication products.
  • Participate in the on-going support of applications and products, both in-house and with clients.

Qualifications/Experience Needed: 

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen
  • Must either hold or be capable of obtaining a Government of Canada Security Clearance up to the Secret level and access to controlled goods. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • 5 year experience in C++, object oriented concepts and real-time embedded computer architectures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledgeable in the software life cycle including definition, requirement analysis and design, implementation, validation and support;
  • Prior experience leading a small software team.
  • Networking and wireless communication protocols such as TCP, RTP and VoIP an asset
