Our Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) - ATS Systems Engineering Department (ATS-SED) has an immediate temporary opportunity for an experienced Software Engineer to join a team of 45 – 50 software engineers The program you will be supporting is a safety-of-life air traffic management system developed by the FAA for use by air traffic controllers controlling civil and military aviation in the terminal airspace within 100 miles of airports. It is the cornerstone of the FAA’s automation modernization effort at over 400 locations in the US. This is an opportunity to leverage and expand your skills as you focus on the support, design, development, integration and testing operational software components throughout the software development life-cycle as well as supporting functionality within defined software releases. The position is onsite in Marlborough, MA.
This temporary position is for a Software or Systems Engineer who will work with product leads and other team members on a variety of tasks related to the development and test of systems on the program. Strong ATC experience and the ability to mentor and train junior engineers on the system and general integration and test processes is a critical criterion for a successful candidate.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- Performing/Supporting the software team to design, develop, integrate and test operational and non-operational software updates for software releases
- Mentoring and training new junior integration engineers for safety critical systems, supporting investigation and analysis resolution of software issues;
- Providing direction on performance and resource utilization testing & development of automated testing scripts, supporting development of regression & formal test procedures
- Working with the software team and engineering leadership to support cost and schedule objectives.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience in software engineering to include experience working across the full software development lifecycle; C Programming / structured programming experience in a Unix/Linux based development environment.
- Prior experience in software testing and debugging source code; experience with ClearCase/ClearQuest, Jira, and Bit-Bucket configuration management.
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment that requires frequent multi-level communication with other engineering domains, program management, and external stakeholders.
- Experience in writing complex technical documentation; developing and facilitating technical presentations to senior management and external customers.
- Experience with clearly communicating to facilitate mentoring & training of more junior engineers.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- Requires a degree in Software Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field or in absence of a degree, 8 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Subject matter expert in system integration and test for safety critical ATC systems and primary role will be mentoring and training new junior integration engineers in all aspects of system integration and test
- Knowledge of agile, continuous integration, and automated testing concepts
- Experience with commercial or open-source test automation tools, environments, and frameworks such as Gherkin/Cucumber, Selenium, Eggplant, CUnit/Junit, Parasoft C++test, Jenkins, Grafana dashboards, kickstart
- Familiar with web application development using HTML, CSS, JQuery, C#, PHP, Json, VBScript, JavaScript
- Knowledge of Unix, Red Hat Linux, Python, SQL, Matlab, bash/ksh scripting
- Flexibility in learning new COTS, tools, processes, or methodologies
- Experience in communicating professionally with internal and external customers
This is a temporary position of undetermined length.
The salary range for this role is $45.19 – $94.23; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training and key skills.
