Role Overview

The Thermofluid Discipline within the Intelligent Systems Department leads the architecting of future aerospace propulsion systems. Team members in the Thermofluid Discipline are experts on thermal systems analysis, propulsion systems, heat exchanger design, heat transfer & multi-phase flows, multi-domain & multi-objective optimization schemes, topology optimization.

Primary Responsibilities:

On our team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the following areas:

  • Modeling and analysis of novel thermodynamic systems for electric systems, power generation, waste heat recovery, and cooling.
  • Development of exploration methods for combinatorial architectural design spaces across aerospace and defense system domains.
  • Application of machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to enable system design.
  • Implementation of novel optimization and uncertainty quantification methods.
  • Control co-design approaches.
  • Power and cooling system build and test.
  • Operations analysis and commercial product utilization simulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding in thermal systems engineering.
  • Adaptability and the ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
  • Analytic modeling and programming skills in common languages, such as Matlab, Python, C/C++, Java.
  • Experience working in a research laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in publishing and presenting research.

Education:

Candidates must be enrolled in a Master's degree or Ph.D. degree program in the field of Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related STEM field.  A minimum 3.5 GPA is required. Please upload unofficial transcript with your application.
