Job Summary: 

The Battlefield, Command and Control and Maritime Systems (BC2MS) Department in Portsmouth, RI, primarily supports programs in the U.S. Navy’s undersea and surface domains including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture/integration. 

 

BC2MS and Advanced Technology (AT) Programs at Raytheon are seeking Senior Systems Engineers who have or will receive by May 2024 acoustic and/or ocean engineering PhDs. In this role, the engineer would support the design of undersea and sonar systems through analysis of acoustic propagation or signal processing and algorithm development.

Responsibilities to Anticipate: 

  • Support design of undersea and sonar systems through analysis of acoustic propagation or signal processing and algorithm development 

  • Use/modify or design ocean acoustic propagation tools, e.g. Bellhop, Parabolic Equations, Kraken, to support system performance analysis and other acoustic based investigations 

  • Use MATLAB, Python or similar tools to develop signal processing and beamforming algorithms for underwater remote sensing applications, including but not limited to, array signal processing, adaptive methods, ambient noise modeling, acoustic communications, PNT and synthetic aperture methods 

  • Oceanography, ocean engineering system design, analysis and evaluation 

  • Data analysis, acoustic testing and experimental design 

 

Qualification You Must Have: 

  • Requires a Doctorate in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) by May 2024 and fewer than 2 years of prior relevant experience 

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. 

 

Qualification We Value: 

  • Experience with ocean acoustic propagation tools, e.g. Ray Tracing, Parabolic Equations, Normal Modes 

  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar tools to develop signal processing and beamforming algorithms 

  • Other ocean engineering system design, analysis and evaluation experience 

  • Data analysis and test design experience 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
