The Air Combat Test & Training (ACTT) Department within Mission Systems strives to improve training capability and realism so that U.S. warfighters and international partners can “train like you fight.” The ACTT engineering team develops state-of-the-art products for cryptographic, datalink, networking, and command and control applications supporting threat and weapon simulations. We specialize in the development and integration of high quality, highly secure, complex solutions for military communication systems, navigation systems, and networks to enable a Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training environment. We design and develop secure Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation (ACMI) systems and mature them from the concept phase through accreditation, factory production, and installation. The ACTT department is seeking a Sr. Systems Engineer to join our team onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA.  Eligible for relocation.

What you will do:

  • Utilize robust systems engineering practices in support of projects assigned

  • Conduct system-of-systems integration, troubleshooting, and verification testing

  • Create, review, and execute systems test procedures.

  • Investigate issues seen during test or production and leverage experience to resolve.

  • Work with customers and teams to develop and review systems requirements. 

  • Develop models, conduct trade studies, and write white papers to influence architecture. 

  • Work in a collaborative Agile development environment

  • Act as a mentor and coach, reviewing the work of junior engineers.

  • Perform bidding and planning of systems engineering effort. 

  • Build strong relationships and effectively communicate with team members and internal and external customers.

  • Manage multiple competing tasks while balancing priorities. 

  • Travel expectations up to 15%

Education an experience:

  • Typically requires a degree (in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and 5 years of prior relevant experience OR in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Skills you must have:

  • Experience performing systems/software tests or developing systems requirements.

  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation), including ability to communicate with different levels of leadership.

Skills we value:

  • Experience in aerospace or defense avionics/electronics development and test 

  • Experience in an Agile development environment 

  • Knowledge of IP networking and familiarity with Linux commands and Wireshark network packet analysis 

  • Experience with Model-Based Design (MBD)/Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools like Simulink or MagicDraw/Cameo

  • Experience with Python scripting and test automation

  • Experience managing budget and schedule for project tasks.

  • Familiarity with US export regulations: International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR)

  • Preferred applicants will currently hold a DoD Secret (or above) security clearance.
