Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced Sr Service Engineer to join their service engineering and support team located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This position requires detailed knowledge of high frequency radio systems, cellular systems, software, integration, testing, and certification activities involving fixed sites, airborne platforms, and watercraft along with excellent project and team communication skills.  Work site locations will include office, laboratory, military installations, and austere field sites.  Travel up to 50% required.  Experience with HF and cellular radio systems and a variety of fielded military communications systems is highly desired. The candidate will also be responsible for coordination of activities with the customer, communicating with Program Management, Design Engineering, and other Service Engineers on a variety of programs supported by the military aviation systems and support product line team.  Candidate must possess the necessary people skills to effectively communicate with customers, internal and external to Collins Aerospace under a wide variety of environments.  Candidate will be required to attend a variety of meetings/events that are both internal and external facing and document the discussions for the program team.  Installation of communications equipment at fixed, geographically remote sites and a variety of military platforms will be required and must be performed in accordance with engineering specifications.  Once on-boarding and initial training has been completed, the candidate normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work. Works under general instructions on new assignments. Participates in determining objectives of assignment. Plans, schedules, and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.

This is an onsite role located in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role is eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site maintenance capabilities to include component triage & testing, determine faulty condition, repair, replace, and upgrade as needed.

  • Basic understanding of interconnect diagrams, signal flow and radio frequency test equipment.

  • Knowledge of radio frequency communications (frequency spectrum, radio wave propagation, interference, etc.).

  • Interfacing with customers (both internal and external) with a wide range of system understand.

  • Execute program milestones according to established schedule and ensure critical path and key dependencies are effectively managed to achieve successful outcome.

  • Reviewing detailed execution plans and schedules with the project management and Service Engineering team lead to ensure adequacy, completeness, and harmonization with the overall program level plan.

  • Advising the customer on the physical installation of multiple types of communications equipment on multiple different ground, airborne, and ship-board platforms.

  • Requires up to 50 percent travel.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Must hold a current and valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds independently.

  • Must have experience with troubleshooting and repair at component level of HF and/or cellular communications systems.

  • Experience training customers and system users ad-hoc or in the classroom required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience performing avionics, integration, post-installation test, and certification activities as required.

  • Prior experience interacting with customers in difficult situations.
