The Virtual Avionics Engineering (VAE) team within Simulation Solutions & Services is seeking a Senior Principal Systems Engineer to join our team.  VAE develops and builds training software and devices for primarily commercial customers and some military customers.  Supported devices range in complexity from desktop trainers to high-fidelity full-flight training simulators. This position is a remote role that reports to our Cedar Rapids, IA location. If you live within a reasonable commute of a Collins site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role.

What you will learn:

  • You will gain exposure to high in demand avionics training applications and devices derived from rehosting Collins operational flight software.

  • You will learn how Collins works internally across multiple functional teams to meet customers’ needs and develop and deliver products.

  • You will gain technical knowledge of the simulation software and applications in our products.

What YOU will do:

  • You will collaborate with our Integrated Product Teams and all counterparts to strive for the common goal of meeting our customers' needs in a way that meets company expectations and goals. 

  • You will support and contribute to multiple phases throughout the lifecycle of a program, including but not limited to: understanding and documenting operational concepts and use cases, capturing requirements, writing test procedures, executing tests, integrating, troubleshooting, tracking, and reporting on various metrics. 

  • You will drive alignment, best practices, and implementing ideas and initiatives that move us towards our roadmap goals and longer-term visions. 

  • You will effectively network and interact with team members and others outside the team to best perform tasking and understand all aspects of the various roles that support the success of a program. 

  • You will provide product support to internal team and external customers to aid in diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and debugging complex avionics equipment, rehosted avionics software and/or personal computer equipment used in Virtual Avionics products. 

  • You will diligently follow standards and set an example for the group on following the processes that enable us to be efficient and meet the company’s standards and processes.

Skills you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • Must be a US Citizen.

  • Experience in diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and debugging complex avionics equipment, rehosted avionics or personal computer equipment used in virtual avionics products.

  • Must be able to perform technical analysis, test and troubleshoot software application and occasionally hardware-related elements.

  • Must be able to travel as needed in support of customer needs and applicable meetings or trade shows.

The salary range for this role is 112,000 USD - 236,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
