Job Summary:
Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering is seeking a dynamic Senior Principal Structures engineer to join the Operational Commercial Engines (OCE) structures team, with expected responsibility for the durability and structural integrity of hot section engine components. The candidate will serve as OCE CIPT structures lead supporting CIPT and internal/external customers. As a senior principal engineer, the candidate is expected to represent engineering group when communicating to the leadership including CIPT, PCE (Program Chief Engineer), upper management and external customers. Analyses include both classical methods and detailed FEA. Opportunities to travel to domestic & international customer site are available (sometimes required) to allow firsthand understanding.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide technical oversight for OCE structural tasks. Lead and develop the group. Coach early career members.

Require ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization. Explain verbally & written, exactly the steps to replicate what they did, what their result is, how it relates to other engineering functions & disciplines.

Participate (lead) in service investigation, identify root cause, support safety risk analysis and balanced fleet managing action.

Identify & assist in planning tasks, leading sub-teams to deliver results with cross-functional integration. Focus on operational plans with short to medium term impact on the organization.

Capable of changing/adapting plans and communicating new plans, risk assessments and decisions to relevant parties. Communicate & Influence with parties within and outside of own function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures, and practices.

Direct activities that have significant impact; capable of setting and meeting deliverables and also influence others to accept job function’s view/practices and accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.

Perform structural analyses throughout various design phases including FEA modeling and stress analysis, strength, buckling, ultimate load, fatigue life, crack growth life, vibration, and HCF. Support blades/vanes, HPT/LPT rotors, low/high spool shafts, diffuser case, combustor, HPT/LPT and Turbine Exhaust cases (TEC).
Basic Qualifications:

BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

10+ years of gas turbine experience or 7+ years with an advance degree.

Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position frequently requires access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Independently perform structural analysis of components via hand calculations and finite element analysis.

Mentor/coach less experienced engineers and review/approve engineering work. Experience with ANSYS Basic/Workbench, also PW lifing tools (PWLIFE, SURCK). UG, LS-Dyna, FRANC3D, DARWIN are good additional skills.

Experience with safety investigation. Familiar with CPR and SRA processes. Ability to work with MPE groups (failure analysis, NDE group, applied mechanic) and safety engineers.

Pro-active in helping team stay focused, drive design decisions, and avoid schedule slip.

Design, production, and service support of engine core components experience.
