The Adaptive Engine Program at Pratt and Whitney provides the Propulsion System proposal for the 6th Generation War fighter. This represents the cumulation of our extensive field history learning and latest technology in an engine focusing on Mission Adaptive High Thrust/Low Fuel Burn with Lightweight and Low Cost Design. To support this endeavor, the Cold Section High Pressure Compressor Engineering team is seeking a Seasoned Design Engineering professional who works independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The P3 Grade Expectation is to execute Work independently, providing technical coaching/guidance to P2 engineers. Plan Technical Tasks. Make key Decisions. Contributes to process improvements (Engineering Knowledge System)
  • Lead resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, all with minimal oversight.
  • Communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.).
  • Ability to negotiate design criteria/space with other groups including internal as well as external customers.
  • Learn and apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner.
  • Delegate for Design approval by Design Manager.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with 5+ years of Mechanical Design engineering experience OR
  • An advanced degree with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • Note: Recent lapsed U.S. government security clearance will also be considered with view to renew after start date.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced mechanical design experience within aerospace or turbofan engine industry
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and when required, assist in training less experienced engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build capabilities.
  • Candidate should have multi-discipline (Design, Heat Transfer, Structures) experience.
  • Ability to interface effectively with both internal and external customers.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
