Job Description:
The Hot Section Engineering Ceramic Matrix Composite (CMC) Acceleration Team is currently looking for highly motivated Design Engineers to join the team. Experienced Design Engineer will be responsible for the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of turbine gaspath components manufactured from ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials. Design Engineer will participate on multidisciplinary integrated product teams (IPTs) responsible for meeting component life, weight, cost, and producibility requirements. The engineer in this position will interact with internal and external customers.
Qualified candidates must possess good communication and problem solving skills. The skill to build and evaluate detailed component level models is required. Key elements of this position include the capability to interpret analysis results for accuracy and propose alternate configurations to resolve design challenges. To ensure a robust design, the candidate will be responsible for continuous improvement of internal processes.
Responsibilities include:
• Mechanical design execution through various phases of product design evolution.
• Ensure robust technology maturation through proactive risk management.
• Development of standard practices for the design of CMC turbine gaspath components.
• Utilize AGILE and continuous improvement tools in everyday work to meet product requirements.
• Integration and balancing of requirements of supporting disciplines (aero, performance, structures, durability/heat transfer, manufacturing, assembly, etc).
• Own design configurations, lead trade studies.
Specific tasks include:
• Determination of CMC component laminate architecture, design of interfacing hardware, creation of solid models.
• Integration of design for manufacturability / design for cost philosophies.
• Execution of a gated design process leading to component validation engine testing.
Basic Qualifications:

B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical engineering, Aerospace engineering, or related discipline.

5+ years’ experience in engineering with an emphasis on turbine airfoils and/or design of composite components (OMCs and CMCs) OR 3+ years with an advance degree

US Citizenship required due to program requirements
Preferred Qualifications:

Strong CAD parametric modeling skills; experience with NX is desirable

Good verbal and written skills

Ability to work in teams

Strong engineering problem solving that will enable the transformation of the organization
