We’re looking for a highly motivated candidate to be a Senior Systems Engineer within the CNS (Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance) Radar Systems department in Avionics. As a Sr Systems Engineer you will work on a team that develops, integrates, and supports commercial radar avionics products for the Air Transport and Business and Regional aircraft markets developing advanced radar systems. As a member of our team, you will be involved in the design, development, integration, validation, and verification of airborne radar systems that provide weather detection and reduced crew operation capabilities.
The candidate is expected to be able to demonstrate communication skills and an ability/desire to work in a team environment, establishing collaborative working relationships with peers and co-workers. The candidate must be adaptable to change, determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule and contribute to a positive work environment. A successful candidate will consistently produce exemplary results on the projects and teams they collaborate with. This position will be onsite in Melbourne, FL.
Primary Responsibilities:
-
Assist customer with aircraft troubleshooting, perform fault data review for fielded Radar units, and analyze aircraft data identifying Radar components for repair.

Encompasses product sustaining support role.
-
Develop, update, refine and add system requirements as necessary.
-
Develop tests and data analysis to troubleshoot system problems or performance issues.
-
Develop and conduct test plans and test procedures; and verify results of laboratory and flight tests in support of FAA certification.
-
Participate in cross-functional team efforts in integration, and qualification for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity.
-
Estimate, track, and report status relating to technical performance, cost, schedule, and risk for assigned scope of work as well as for overall systems team performance.

Review metrics and defect trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement in systems development processes.

Lead DO-160 ENV/EMI qualification efforts including writing QTP’s and QTR’s
-
Generate, coordinate, and participate in formal documentation reviews.
-
Coordinate/direct and assist Service Center (SC) technicians for Radar unit repairs (interface between SC and engineering), analyze Service Center repair data identifying trends.
-
Receive/Track Radar units from service center to engineering for evaluation, prepare Engineering Evaluation reports.

Coordinate lab technicians for engineering evaluations

Direct Qualification testing effort in ENV/EMI lab

Timely action under aggressive time restraints (customer support)

Provides technical training for less experienced engineers to ensure that quality standards are met.

Assist production personnel as needed with failures in all levels of test.
-
Support the analysis and evaluation of lab and flight test data captured during testing and assess the robustness of the system design, providing detailed test reports.

Produce and maintain test records that meet the Collins and regulatory requirements.
-
Adhere to exacting quality, integrity, and ethical standards.
Qualifications/Experience Needed:
-
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.

RADAR domain knowledge is required.
-
Strong Electrical background- ability to analyze hardware circuitry and perform root cause analysis for production or field failures.

Good working RF knowledge of pulse Power, sensitivity, dBm, noise figure

High level understanding of the radar software
-
Working knowledge of ARINC 429 topology
-
Working knowledge of Test equipment: Spectrum analyzers, Power Meters, Signal Generators, Noise Figure Analyzers, VNAs
-
Have domain knowledge of avionics products, RF/Analog/Digital systems, and experience in working across multidisciplinary functional teams.

Capable of interfacing directly with customers including presentations and issue resolution.

Communication skills talking to customers.
-
Technical troubleshooting skills – testing unit and system level
-
Works autonomously with limited oversight from manager
Preferred Qualifications:
-
System engineering with experience in requirements validation, requirements management, system verification planning, and system testing.

Familiar with PREP, DOORS and JAMA for change tracking and reviews.
-
Displays organizational knowledge; knows where to go to overcome barriers and to get the right people involved to solve problems.
-
Independently establishes an overall course of action considering immediate and future requirements.
-
Ability to work closely with lab technicians in performing and/all testing, root cause or analysis tasks related to the project.
-
Matlab, LabVIEW and JavaScript knowledge.
