Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Senior Structures Engineer to provide structural and shop support for Aftermarket commercial engine components for repair analysis for our North Berwick Engineering Center.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform finite element analysis for stress, deflection, vibration, determination of low and high cycle fatigue life and residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction as it relates to components after repairs, or existing damage.
- Provide analytical support for serviceable and repair limit definition. Perform state-of-the-art ANSYS finite element analysis for stress, vibration, mission low cycle fatigue life, residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction, and optimization; stress testing and data reduction; production and in-service field investigations.
- Analysis of gas turbine engine hardware, fatigue and fracture analysis (stress and vibration analysis, low cycle fatigue, fracture mechanics).
- Participate as an active member in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide solutions for hardware reuse that maintain product safety and FAA type certificates.
- Seek and incorporate advances in technology and improvements in processes on an individual and team basis.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Aerospace Engineering or in a related Engineering degree and 5+ years of prior FEA/ANSYS, fatigue and fracture analysis experience, OR Advance Degree in a related field and 3+ years of prior FEA/ANSYS, fatigue and fracture analysis experience.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- Travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualification:
- Strong design and mechanical aptitude to understand the interactions of complex assemblies and how to translate those interactions into sound analytical assumptions.
- Experience with analysis of gas turbine engine hardware; ability to create and run advanced (non-linear, contact) ANSYS analysis.
- Familiarization with Unigraphics.
- Experience in MS office.
