Job Description:

Are you looking to be a part of a dynamic cross-functional dynamic team with opportunities to develop your leadership skills? Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) is seeking a self-motivated and detail-focused Senior Structures Engineer to support any of the following: military exhaust, military and commercial diffusers, combustors, mid turbine frames and turbine exhaust cases. You will serve as the structures discipline focal point within integrated product teams (IPT). This engineer is expected to execute structural assessments and oversee day-to-day activities for production support, proactive producibility improvement tasks, supporting critical quality issues, supplier transitions, and Class 2 Engineering Changes.  The candidate will have the opportunity to build proficiency, decision-making ability, and gain exposure to a variety of commercial and military hot section hardware. The ideal applicant must have strong interpersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication skills and be a cohesive and supportive teammate.

Role classification is Hybrid. A minimum 2-3 days/week on-site presence in East Hartford, CT, USA is required depending upon company needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for the execution of quality non-conformance structural assessments of commercial & military hot section components using hand calculations, 2D and 3D finite element modeling, the latest P&W Engineering Standard Work, analytical tools, and engineering judgement.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and drive timely execution by overseeing structural analyses to meet task and schedule requirements.
  • Participate in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Develop structural analysis solutions when historical solutions are not available or applicable.
  • Oversee, support and mentor outsource engineers to maintain outsource technical quality and grow their proficiency
  • Support proactive initiatives to improve producibility and reduce the cost of poor quality by initiating steps towards automation efforts within structural analysis processes and documentation to save time and increase quality.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 5 years of Aerospace or Structural engineering experience or an advanced degree in Engineering and 3 years of Aerospace or Structural engineering experience from an ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited school.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ABET accredited Mechanical or Aerospace engineering degree
  • Experience with finite element analysis software and programing languages. Examples include ANSYS, APDL, Workbench, ABAQUS, PATRAN / NASTRAN, MATLAB, VBA, Python, C++, Fortran, NX Simcenter, NX Teamcenter and SAP.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives with the ability to propose innovative solutions to complex engineering trials.
  • Demonstrated success working effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
