Job Description:

Pratt & Whitney’s Puerto Rico Aftermarket and Sustainment Engineering (ASE) is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focus Structures Engineer to work on existing and next generation of commercial and military gas turbine engines. Engineer would provide analytical support for repair development and substantiation. Possible opportunities include Military and Commercial Airfoils, Rotors and Static Hardware. Determination on assigned hardware and program will be based on candidate’s experience and development strategy. Structures Engineer will apply scientific principles to analyze, innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions. Ensures novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable IP processes and tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform state-of-the-art ANSYS finite element analysis for stress, vibration, determination of low cycle fatigue life and residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction. Stress and life changes after repairs and in-service field investigations.

  • Participate as an active member in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.

  • Develop and incorporate new ways to advance technology and improve processes as an individual and as a team contributor. Embrace a continuous improvement philosophy.

  • Ability to write clear documentation, as well as to create and provide impactful, persuasive technical presentations to internal and external customers.

  • Develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with peers, internal and external customers where significant interaction is expected.

  • Manage increase workload and changes in priorities by utilizing project management skills and assist on the technical development of peers.

  • Attend and have participation in group meetings, teleconferences and/or training required and provide analytical aftermarket support to maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) services.

  • Actively participate in initiatives for continuous improvement using CORE tools and support AS9100D efforts.

  • Based on business needs, the incumbent may be required to support other duties/functions within the company and support structures community initiatives.

  • Travel is up to 10%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in the aerospace industry or structural experience or 3+ years of experience in the aerospace industry if candidate possesses an advanced degree

  • 5+ years in experience working with finite element analysis for stress, vibrations, determination of low cycle fatigue life or residual life (fracture mechanics) prediction.

  • English fluency (verbal and written)

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Academic Degree of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

  • Experience working in the Aerospace Industry

  • Previous gas turbine experience

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills

  • Team oriented and cultural awareness

  • Experience with software and programing languages. ANSYS, APDL, Workbench, ABAQUS, PATRAN / NASTRAN, MATLAB, VBA, Python, C++, Fortran, MS Office, NX Teamcenter and SAP

  • The ability to craft clear communication and build positive relationships

  • Strong mechanical aptitude to understand the interactions of complex assemblies and how to translate those interactions into sound analytical assumptions.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
