Collins Aerospace is looking for a Principal Structures Engineer to perform advanced structural analysis in support of composite and metallic nacelle and aerostructure components using standard and complex analysis methods and finite element approaches. 

The position is working in a Hybrid capacity, which is a mix of working onsite and remotely from home weekly, from our Chula Vista CA facility. Relocation assistance is available.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive and conduct design trades, optimizations and final product configuration definitions considering safety, strength, weight, cost & producibility. 
  • Generate and review reports suitable for transmittal to an airworthiness authority and external customers. 
  • Oversee technical aspects of the stress analysis activities for domestic and global engineering support teams across multiple disciplines.  
  • Develop and validate new analysis methods and tools for use across the engineering team. 
  • Lead and participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) activities and events.
  • Mentor junior engineers on a global level
  • Communicate and present technical data
  • Travel up to 10% when circumstances permit
  • Perform other duties as required

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. Collins Aerospace will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Experience in aircraft/airframe structural analysis (classical hand analysis and finite element skills)
  • Experience defining and optimizing structural load paths
  • Understanding of applicable regulatory requirements
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • NASTRAN/PATRAN experience
  • Experience with FAR25 regulatory requirement
  • Nacelle stress analysis
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience using MS Office products
  • Advanced Excel knowledge
  • Experience working with international teams
  • Ability to deliver high quality output in needed timeframes with minimal oversight
  • Work well in team environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations

The salary range for this role is 75,000 USD - 161,000 USD; however, RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
