Are you motivated to work on a team that supports the backbone of optimizing aircraft operational efficiency? Our Datalinks team with Collins, Connected Aviation Solutions (CAS) works to develop state-of-the-art integrated information management system and implements embedded software on a number of our Airborne network platforms that help to support multiple ways (Cellular, SATCOM, IPSec VPN, etc.) of connecting the aircraft to the ground and the business and regional avionics customers in their pursuit of optimizing operational efficiency, improving safety, and reducing operational and maintenance costs.

As a member of our team, you will be involved a network consisting of over 1000 ground stations deployed all around the world to provide on-ground and enroute VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode 2 coverage. The system is part of a critical infrastructure to support ACARS (Aircraft Communication Addressing and Reporting System) and ATN in which Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Aeronautical Operational Control (AOC) messages are exchanged. 

This role will be in a collaborative hybrid role environment located in Annapolis, MD.

What YOU will do:

  • You will perform full life-cycle software development including designing system and software solutions; supporting implementation, integration, acceptance testing and deployment.

  • You will support a large-scale global aviation network infrastructure with heavy design focus in redundancy, high availability, and security.

  • You will develop software for air-ground/ground-ground communication, positional data processing, transport/routing/link layer protocols, radio interfaces, hardware/OS customization, and remote deployment capabilities.

  • You will collaborate closely with system engineering/performance, network engineering, system acceptance and field operation teams.

  • You will provide support for product deployment, field monitoring, troubleshooting and operator trainings.

  • You will participate in lab/field integration and industry activities with avionics vendors, Satellite Service Providers, Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) from domestic US, Europe and Asia.

  • You will utilize a mature ISO/SEI CMMI compliant process to produce all work products.

  • You will support project leadership, project planning, execution, monitoring and closure activities.

Education & Experience:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience

  • US Citizenship/Permanent Residence status

Skills you must have:

  • Two (2) years of Software Experience with C++/Python, Object Oriented Design, and Data Communication.

Skills we value:

  • Linux, Network Protocols, High Availability and Security.

  • The ideal candidate will possess three (3) or more years of data communication or system software development experience.

  • The ideal candidate will have experience using disciplined development processes in a team environment.
