Senior Project Engineer - Space Systems (Onsite)

 

The successful Senior Project Engineer candidate may be working on several projects simultaneously with different customers and end item applications.   Additionally, the candidate may be responsible for leading the Integrated Product teams consisting of Systems Engineering, Test Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Design, Supplier Quality, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Material Planners, and Purchasing to drive delivery of these products within the approved budget and schedule.  Senior Project Engineer will play a critical role in driving project execution while meeting both internal and external customer expectations.   This position requires interaction with our customers including delivery of technical documentations.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive world class project management process using integrated scheduling, earned value management, and risk and opportunity management
  • Work collaboratively with other Engineering disciplines (Systems, Software, Mechanical, and Electrical), Programs, Production, Quality and Supply Chain to develop an integrated execution plan to satisfy customer requirements across applicable operating conditions
  • Facilitate project tasks with the various functional organizations to ensure alignment with overall project objectives
  • Track team’s integrated execution performance to plan
  • Analyze, identify, and address execution problems, recommend and implement resolutions to ensure the successful completion of project(s)
  • Forecast project revenues, monitor costs, and re-estimate project costs monthly to maximize project profitability and ensure business objectives are met
  • Maintain and present plans and progress reports relating to business aspects of the project(s) to track progress and ensure that established targets are met
  • Ability to balance demands of multiple projects
  • Work autonomously with limited oversight from manager
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for failures, field returns and production issues
  • Performs bidding and planning activities
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts for project execution efficiency
  • Champion superior ethical and professional behavior in all situations
  • Coordinates setting team meeting agendas, leading team meetings, driving action item closures and identifying scope creep
  • Leads investigations and risk assessment reviews, complete with detailed mitigation plans including funding and staffing
  • Create technical plans with associated schedules and risk mitigation plans which ensure the timely delivery of error-free engineering products, services, and contract deliverable in strict compliance with company policy and procedures

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience OR In absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
  • This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with NASA Guidelines. Candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per NASA’s regulation SUBPART 1835.5 Drug- Free Workforce

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Mechanical, Electrical, and/or Systems Engineering degree w/ 5 + years of experience
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong computer skills, MS Office, Windchill, PLM
  • Experience and familiarity with product qualification, and production build and test, with an expertise in low volume space qualified hardware
  • Natural presence/comfortable presenting to internal and external customers
  • Experience troubleshooting problems on the production floor and developing solutions that maintain product quality while minimizing cost/schedule impact
  • Ability to bring team members together and work to resolve problems
  • Proven planning, adaptability, organizational and negotiation skills for effective team management
  • Ability to anticipate project risks and build contingency plans
  • Interface with both internal operations and engineering functions to facilitate assembly, test, and delivery of hardware.
  • Participate in regular reviews with the customer to communicate status of contracts and schedule.
  • Develop and manage program schedules to drive on-time contract deliveries.
  • Participate in preparing contract proposals, including BOE and BOM estimates.
  • Good understanding of Earned Value methodology with the ability to forecast program demands, track project completion and maintain accurate estimate to complete.
