This position is for a Senior Principal Technical Project Manager (TPM) for the Advanced Systems & Integration -Special Mission & Civil Systems Team within the Military Avionics & Helicopters department of Avionics Engineering at Collins Aerospace.  The TPM will be the engineering single point of contact for Program Management and external customers on an executing development program or project/program pursuit.  They will be responsible for the technical leadership and project management of the design & development activities. 

This TPM role supports current and emerging pursuits and projects related to Fighter, Bomber and Trainer (FBT) platforms.  Responsibilities may include managing aspects of pursuit to order capture, preparing systems and software demonstrations for prospective customers, and/or planning and leading executing programs. The FBT portion of our team charter may include but is not limited to projects related to Next Gen Fighter, Next Gen Air Dominance, Collaborative Combat Aircraft and legacy platforms.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Experience leading the technical development of platform systems and/or subsystems elements of an entire Avionics development project. (Capturing system requirements through Validation & Verification)

  • Experience managing a group of systems and/or software engineers within an Avionics development project.

  • Working with the Program Manager to create and maintain estimates of schedule, budget and staffing while ensuring the project remains on schedule and within budget.

  • Pursuit/bid leader for proposals and/or customer requested budgetary estimates.

  • Knowledge in the areas of Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Account Management (CAM), Change Management and Risk Management (RM).

  • Ability to report overall engineering performance to plan as appropriate.

  • Ability to analyze data and determine appropriate actions to correct real problems before they impact overall program.

  • Ability to mentor other Platform Engineers (PE).

  • Ability to work with the end user customer in a professional manner and represent Collins Aerospace to the customer in the absence of the VSL.

  • A strong communicator with others, both written and verbal.

  • Experience and ability to effectively use DOORS, JAMA, JIRA and ALM tool suite.

  • Experience and ability to effectively use Microsoft Project, Powerpoint and Excel.

  • Experience and ability to execute a program within a Scaled Agile development environment.

  • Work in a very strong team-oriented environment.

  • Demonstrate self-starter personality traits as well as the ability to work autonomously.

  • Understanding of basic cockpit instrumentation/procedures and experience with military products/platforms and customers.

  • This position requires an intimate knowledge of Collins Aerospace Avionics Engineering processes and tools, and the ability to manage projects.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Experience with Fighter, Bomber and/or Trainer aircraft platforms

  • Experience leading medium to large scale pursuits

  • Experience coordinating across department and business unit boundaries to assemble engineering solutions and proposals

  • Prior Pro Line Fusion Avionics experience.

  • Prior experience with mission computer hardware and systems

  • Experience leading mid to large development teams.
