Job Summary:

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Senior Principal Engineer for their Lubrication and Thermal Management Systems (TMS) group within the Mechanical Systems Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) Module Center to serve as the Advanced Engine Programs (AEP) focal, supporting the oil and thermal management systems. The focal will work with CIPT customers, as well as other disciplines both inside and outside of the MSEN module center, to provide support and solutions for multiple P&W products. The team works with a few different analytical tools to execute their daily work, including but not limited to Easy5, Dymola, Simulink, MATLAB, and Python.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting trade studies for AEP projects and proposals

  • Developing and executing system models for steady-state and transient fluid flow and heat transfer analyses using Dymola, MATLAB Simulink and Easy 5

  • Interfacing with other analysis groups (e.g., CFD/Heat Transfer, Engine Performance, Ventilation, Controls) and component/system owners

  • Specifying engine validation test plans, reviewing engine and test rig data, and summarizing results in test reports

  • Defining performance requirements for system components.

  • Summarizing system status to requirements for presentation at design reviews.

  • 10% Travel Requirement

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • 10+ years of experience in Systems Lubrication and/or Thermal Science Engineering; OR an Advanced degree with 7+ years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. Person or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees in Mechanical, Aerospace or Systems Engineering preferred.

  • Aerospace or Turbofan Engine industry experience in an ATF related discipline highly preferred.

  • Experience working with one or more gas turbine engine subsystems and their architecture, performance, and analysis.

  • Experience in aircraft engine lubrication system design or analysis.

  • Understanding of heat exchangers, pumps, and internal flow modeling

  • Experience in system-level analysis tools (e.g., Dymola, MATLAB, Simulink, Easy5), including experience developing robust component models.

  • Ability to integrate design and analysis inputs from other organizations

  • Able to effectively communicate, lead, influence and coordinate across teams in strategic projects and initiatives.

  • Prior team leadership experience, and willingness to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
