Job Summary

Raytheon is seeking a Systems Engineer to work in a exciting Agile environment that ensures accurate and timely design, development, and deployment of products and services that translate, request, share, and validate earth data residing in the NASA Earthdata Cloud. The overall architecture of the aforementioned products and services is expected to be defined by this position, on the Agile Release Trains (ARTs) that support the developing, releasing, and running of them in NASA’s Earth Observing System Data Information System (EOSDIS)

As a member of this team, you will ensure adherence to operational agreements and polices (including response times), compliance to program and NASA standards and requirements leveraging of industry best practices for automation and scalability of assets, and implementation of issue detection and alerts.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Defining and communicating a shared technical and architectural vision for the Platform Release Train and for ensuring the solution meets its intended purpose.

  • Participating in the planning, definition, and high-level design of the solution and alternatives.

  • Defining subsystems and their interfaces, allocating responsibilities to those subsystems, understanding solution deployment, and communicating requirements for interactions with solution context.

  • Participating in PI Planning, Solution Demos, and Inspect & Adapt (I&A) events.

  • Planning and developing the Architectural Runway in support of new business features and capabilities.

  • Participating in the Continuous Exploration process as part of the Continuous Delivery Pipeline.

  • Working with customers, stakeholders, and suppliers to establish high-level solution intent, solution intent information models, and documentation requirements.

  • Working with portfolio stakeholders to develop, analyze, split, and realize the implementation of enabler epics.

  • Collaborate with other members of the initiative in the Architecture Working Group.

Basic Qualifications:

(Key program role ARCH - 3 agile safe trains - WILL LEAD PROGRAM ACTIONS)

  • Bachelor’s degree (REQUIRED NOT TYPICALLY) and at least 10 years of experience with designing, developing, and/or testing large scale IT systems.

  • At least 4 years of managing cross-matrixed teams, including key technical and non-technical stakeholders, towards developing cohesive enterprise-scaled IT systems.

  • Experience working in Lean Agile frameworks such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) and Enterprise Scrum (eScrum).

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), including the design, provisioning and operations of security, networking and other infrastructure-layer services, such as IAM, VPCs, Transit Gateway, WAF, and others, in multi-account environments.

  • Hands-on experience using Infrastructure-as-Code development resources such as Terraform for administration of cloud infrastructure and networking.

  • Experience automating operational and infrastructure-related tasks using cloud-native services such as AWS Lambda.

  • Experience analyzing cost and performance trade-offs associated with different cloud & commercial solutions and present this analysis to help customers make decisions.

  • Experience generating enterprise-level technical recommendations that incorporate business, performance, monitoring, security, and financial requirements.

  • Travel to onsite locations at min 4x's a year

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with other commercial cloud vendors such as Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud and development of multi-/cross-cloud applications and architectures.

  • Experience creating and contributing to open-source projects.

  • Experience with one or more of the following technologies: Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Docker, Node.js, Python.

  • Experience with developing Cloud performance and cost metrics.

  • Experience leveraging data metrics to optimize health and performance of large-scale IT systems.

  • Experience using Jira for issue tracking and Application Lifecycle administration.
